Today, I ran into my girlfriend by chance while out shopping. She looked different than usual. Maybe it was the wedding ring she was wearing, or how she had her arm around another gentleman, gee, I don't know. That's two years of my life wasted. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I got home early from work at 2am to find my girlfriend of 5 years missing. Upon further inspection, I caught the "other man" dropping her off out front. So much for the engagement ring I bought for her. FML
Today, I ran into an old friend of mine at the store. All was going fine, until she showed me her new fiancé. My now ex-boyfriend. FML
Today, my former fiancée, who I stopped seeing 5 months ago, married another guy. She wore the dress that I'd purchased for our would-be wedding. FML
Today, while at my ex-girlfriend's wedding, I had to hear her explain how she met the love of her life. This happened in the four years we were dating. FML
Today, while out with my family, I happened to run into "the one who got away." She smilingly introduced herself to my wife, who definitely noticed that she and our daughter share the same name. FML
Today, as I was waiting for my girlfriend in the street, I saw a woman who looked a lot like her. I ran towards her, my arms in the air ready to give her a hug, only to realise it wasn't her. I then had to pass the woman, my arms in the air, still running. FML
Today, my girlfriend found the engagement ring I'd bought. She looked at it and said, "This is pathetic. You shouldn't even bother." FML
Today, I went on my fifth date with my new girlfriend. Apparently, she was in such a rush while leaving work that she forgot to take off her wedding ring. FML
Today, it was the second anniversary of the day I met my girlfriend. I had to go to work, but I set an engagement ring and a letter on my pillow for when she woke up, and left breakfast for her on the counter. When I got home, she and all of her things were gone. FML
Today, I went on a 70-mile drive to the next town over to finally meet this beautiful girl I had talked to online. To my surprise, she looked exactly how she did in her pictures, minus the ring on her finger and the fiancé who wanted to punch me in the face. FML

I feel for you OP. My moms long time boyfriend, five years, turned out to have been married the entire time. We went on family vacations with his kid, spent holidays together, they went to work functions together at both their jobs, adopted two cats together, and lives together for two years. He even had phony divorce papers. My mom busted him when she went to renew her car insurance without him (she's a little ditzy and doesn't keep up with that very well, so he'd normally handled it) and they asked about his wife's truck.

That's so sad. What a horrible guy! Whenever I hear stories like this I wonder aren't they exhausted from keeping up the charade and going out all the time with the different women? It always amazes me that they last so long.

Just because marriage didn't work out for you doesn't mean it doesn't work out for others. My parents got married at 19 and they've been together for 37 years and are still crazy in love. There are many other marriages I know that have lasted just as long if not longer. No reason to claim that people that believe in marriage are "dewy-eyed teens" or go crapping on the "institution."

I'd say you're getting more negative votes from people in legitimately happy marriages. You sound bitter and pessimistic, no wonder it didn't work out. Don't clump your failure in with the successful marriages of others.
