Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in public. She happily said yes, and the surrounding crowd cheered for us. About 10 minutes later, after the excitement died down, she leaned over and quietly said, "Actually, I don't want to marry you. I only said yes so I wouldn't disappoint the crowd." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in front of about 75 people in the fanciest restaurant in town. She told me she was already engaged, while holding up her right hand. FML
Today, after my girlfriend telling me for years that she would marry me in a heartbeat, I finally proposed. She said no. FML
Never do this
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend at the museum where we met, with a violinist playing her favourite song. She said yes but later said she felt put on the spot in public, and if I’d proposed in private, she probably would've said no. I’m in my feelings trying not to cry right now. FML
Today, I took my girlfriend of nearly 2 years out to dinner so I could propose. When the waiter brought the check, I caused a bit of a scene to get everyone's attention. When I got on my knee and proposed, she said no and asked if I could hurry up and pay, because she was embarrassed. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend in the food court at the mall. When she said "Yes", the entire food court broke out in applause, and my girlfriend and I were then escorted out of the mall for "starting a riot." I never knew clapping was a crime. FML
Today, at a restaurant, I happily watched as my boyfriend of three years got down on his knees and proposed to me. Before I could say yes and hug him, a girl flung herself at him, kissed him and shouted, "Yes!" With us still highly confused, she then ran away. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She didn't say no, she didn't faint, and she didn't cry. She just stared at me blankly and said, "But... why...?" FML
I guess that's a "NO!" then?
Today, I thought it would be romantic to propose to my girlfriend during halftime at a local football game. I arranged everything with the stadium staff. When the moment came, I got down on one knee, only for her to hiss, "Are you serious? Right here?" She ran off, leaving me kneeling in front of hundreds of people. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She promptly had a panic attack and screamed, "No!" FML
Today, I gathered both mine and my girlfriend's families secretly to a restaurant. I paid the restaurant to play romantic music, and paid for the best table available. As soon as we finished our meal, our families gathered around and I proposed. She laughed and said no way. FML

I feel for you OP, but at least she had the courtesy to not humiliate you in front of dozens of people.

Seems like she's busy pleasing everyone else but you, that's brutal man.

You would've felt worse had she turned you down the first time, but still FYL.

That should be half expected when you make a public proposal. But I'm sorry to hear that.

Could have been worse. She could have said no and caused drama

dump the attention seeking bitch.

Frankly that's what you get for doing it in public. You probably thought it was really romantic and memorable, but in reality that should be a private moment. Putting the other person in a situation like that where they'd feel uncomfortable saying no because other people are around is completely unfair. YDI

Thank you! I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who thought this, with everyone calling the girlfriend insensitive. You should never propose in public unless 1) you've discussed marriage and are positive the answer will be yes, and 2) you know they will appreciate a big, public gesture rather than being embarrassed or put on the spot by it. OP should really have known better.

What a shallow broad. If all she's worried about is not letting the crowd down its probably for the best. Sorry buddy

In her defense, would you have rather had her say no to you in front of everyone?? She's being honest..better than her saying yes and then dumping you at the alter because she isn't ready.

So she was being nice by lying and then turning around and taking it back? Thats bullshit. You dont lie to save face in front of a crowd!
Sheh_fml 25
It's not just about "saving face", it's about not wanting complete strangers to insult you and harass you because you made a choice that in no way affect them. Remember the FML when they threw food at the girl who said no? If anything, it's not nice to force a girl to make a life-changing decision in a split second.

If she had said "I only said yes because I didn't want to embarrass you in front of the crowd" I'd be more sympathetic. But, she either chose to be insensitive at that time or it came out naturally.

She was in a bad position too A public proposal is a lot of pressure. Truly sorry she didn't feel the same - at least so far.
