Today, I overheard my parents talking about my husband. Apparently, they think he's a nice guy and all, but they don't really see him as "husband material." They think I would have been better off with my ex, who doesn't have a job and hurt me both physically and mentally. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I overheard my in-laws talking about me. It started off with light insults and ended with, "People like her are the reason murder ain't always wrong". FML
To be fair and balanced…
Today, I found out my husband is still friends with someone who talks a lot of crap about me. FML
What did she do now?
Today, I found out that my husband, who I've just separated from, and my mother, who I don't speak to because she's crazy, have been bitching about me behind my back. FML
Today, I overheard my boyfriend talking to his mom about me. It sounded like they were planning something for me, like a marriage. They were planning how to break up with me. FML
Keeping up with the Joneses
Today, I met my ex from the college, and he invited me to dinner. Back then, he was rude and a bit abusive, but I agreed anyway. The man I saw today is loving, caring and fun, with a good job, and I really liked his wife. On the other hand, I'm between jobs, and my relationship's turned into the utter bore. FML
Today, after getting into an argument with my dad, he told me that I would make a great ex wife one day. FML
How's he doing?
Today, and at every family event, my parents and grandparents go on and on about my ex and how much they miss him and wish I would get back with him. This would be fine, rude, but fine, except that they tell this to my husband. It's been years and we're expecting our first child. FML
But she's so wonderful…
Today, my parents are so in love with my ex, they still think it’s my fault she felt unloved enough to cheat with another man. They constantly try to convince me to take her back and become stepdad to the child she conceived with the guy she cheated on me with. FML
Badmouthing
Today, I contemplated leaving my husband because his best friend is overbearing and doesn't respect the boundaries of our relationship, all while talking bad about me to him. FML
Welcome to the family!
Today, I met my new boyfriend’s parents, hoping that they would like me. They made subtle, mean comments during dinner and made me feel like total crap, all because my boyfriend left his ex-wife for me. They don’t get that we’re both good and compatible for each other, and that’s what matters. FML

Good thing that it's your decision and not theirs. As long as you're happy, I'm sure they'll come around.

Unfortunately, people who abuse their SO's are typically very charming and manipulative to everyone around them. If your husband makes you happy, they will be fine. But your husband does not have to prove himself to them, as marriage was a decision between you and him :)

Sorry you had an abusive ex... It's sadly very common. Who cares what your parents think? You know what's best for you.

Is it me or are there a lot of posts about manipulative, controlling parents?

Of course there are. You're not exactly going to write an FML about how sweet and caring your family is.

And let's be honest, most parents are both manipulative and controlling. Some just go a little too far.

you're lucky you didn't obtain their logic while being raised.

Abuse people & psychopaths can have a high level of charm. They can use natural likeablity to to get away with murder. Your parents have bad instincts. Good for you, choosing a nice husband.

They may have not known the extent of the damage your ex did to you, even if you told them. Only you can decide who's right for you!

Good on you for leaving that relationship in the first place and good on you again for finding someone to marry. I'm sure your parents will come around when they see how happy you are. :)
