Today, I met someone who works in radio advertising. Making conversation, I described an ad that I can't stand. He wrote it. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Tonight, on First Dates…
Today, I was on a first date. She asked what I do, so I replied, "I create adverts." She then yelled, "F**k you" and left. FML
Today, I was reciting lines for a play that I'm in. It was going great, until I realized that I was actually reciting my scripted sales pitch from my telemarketing job. FML
Don't let the bastards grind you down
Today, I heard a radio ad for the new anti-bullying efforts at a local middle school. The speaker in the ad was the school counselor… who was also my bully in high school. FML
Today, I was watching TV with my boyfriend, when a weird wart-removal ad came on. He watched in disgust as the lady's wart said rude things to her. Then he looked at me and said seriously, "I'm glad yours don't talk..." FML
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
Today, I was having an in depth discussion with my girlfriend's father about how corrupt journalists are and how our town's paper is the worst paper on the planet. After insulting basically everything about the newspaper, I asked him what he did for a living. He's the editor of the newspaper. FML
Today, I explained to my boss what clickbait is and why it's bad practice to use it when writing online. After my explanation, she ordered me to go ahead with it, saying it's "exactly what we need". This person is the marketing communications director for a major multinational company. FML
The walls have ears
Today, while sitting at a table in a coffee shop, I overheard someone on the next table talking about their horrible boss. I joined in, complaining about mine, and going into great detail about what an arsehole he can be. Turns out, I was talking to my boss's sister. FML
Today, I was trying sell a customer a top-of-the-line surround sound system. Apparently he was aware that I work on commission, as he threatened to buy the system elsewhere unless I sang Rebecca Black's "Friday" in front of the whole store. Goodbye, self-respect. FML
Today, I found an ad for my job at my company on an online job board. FML
Long goodbye
Today, I got a call from a potential employer. They spent five minutes explaining job duties and I listened with anticipation. Then they spent five minutes explaining why I wasn't the right person for the job. FML

I would not say you deserved that one, but it is always good to start conversations with talking about something you do like, rather than something you don't like. Good luck

Maybe he'll take your opinion in consideration and try to make a better ad.

And try to refrain from using the word "hate" when referring to something you do not like. It's a very strong word to use around people you just met.

It happens to the best of us.

No one really likes ads on the radio anyways, if I were him I wouldn't have taken much offense.

Sometimes that's what an advertiser wants. It sounds counter intuitive, but when you remember their ad, for whatever reason, it aides in name recognition.

22 I was just about to say the same thing...no matter if you like the ad or hate it..you remember it..so it.has served its purpose

Yeah but there's a difference between remembering something exists and hating an advert so much you immediately black list the company. I have a lot if companies that, whilst I'm not gonna be as petty to never buy from them, they will always be my last choice because they've released such annoying/stupid adverts.

It's an unfortunate situation for sure, but I don't think it's too bad. You're not forced to like his ads just because you're talking with him. I hope you didn't say anything too hateful, though.

Which one was it?

"So easy, makes you wanna slap yo momma!" Come on, who *doesn't* hate that one?

I'm sure you're not the first person to hate a radio ad. He's a big boy, he'll get over it. If he can't he's in the wrong business.

FYL. But if someone works in media or advertising, they should realise that there will be criticism at some point and be prepared for it. Hope they didn't take it too badly OP.

i hope he "added" you to his hit list.

Well the advert worked in the sense that you remembered it.

Yes, but when I remember Progressive, I just remember anger and hatred of Flo and how they will never have my business. Ever. Even if they gave out free insurance for their welcome package that also included a Lamborghini. Never ever. So is it really worth being remembered negatively? My anecdotal evidence suggests it's not.

We have this annoying local car accident lawyer with a jingle, "Glen Lerner is the way to go, call 87715-O-O". I can't stand those ads but if I was "in a wreck and needed a check" that would be the first name and number I thought of... I didn't even google that number, it's seared into my brain >.<
