Today, my mom sold the car I've been working on for the last few years for 100 dollars. To buy gas for her car. FML
Today, after selling their car, my parents decided to inform me that my car (that I paid for myself) is now going to be the "Family Car". They also informed me that since it is, after all, my car, I'll still have to pay for the gas and maintenance. FML
Today, I bought my very first car. My dad insisted on driving it, just to see how it handles, and drove it right off the bridge near our house into our river because he hasn’t driven anything in 15 years, which also means he has no insurance, at all. FML
Today, my parents said that they bought me a car. I had been begging for one for a year and they always said that I would have to pay for it myself. I got really excited and went to the garage to see my new ride. It was a Hot Wheels car with a note saying, "Save your money". FML
Today, after ten months of carpooling or borrowing my mom's car to get to work, and saving money, I finally have a brand new car. However, I have nowhere to go, besides work, and everyone I know is busy or lives out of state. FML
Today, I bought my very first car that I spent years saving for. A few hours after I signed all the papers, I let my boyfriend go for a test drive. He totaled it. FML
Today, I bought a used car from a private dealer my parents had recommended. On my way home they called to tell me that their car broke down. They bought it last week from the same guy. FML
Today, I illicitly borrowed my dad's car to go to the store, but crashed into my mom's car as she and dad were returning from my grandma's house. Both cars are totalled, my mom is in hospital with a broken collarbone, and I realised dads really can make steam come out their ears if they’re really mad. FML
Today, I got woken up by my parents telling me I had to go buy a car so they could have transportation. Neither of their cars work, so I was letting them use mine, and then they wrecked it. It needs nearly a thousand bucks in repairs to be drivable again, but since it was my car, I have to replace it now to appease them. FML
Today, my father retired and made sure to buy both my younger sisters and their partners near new cars. Despite only one having a licence. Then bought the bare minimal definition of a "functioning" car for me, as compensation for paying off the family car on my own. FML

you tell your dad no she wont... its your car u bought it with ur money... unless she's going to make the insurance payments on it for u and full cover it so if she wrecks it she replaces it

well it's could be under her dads name. if she waste 18 yet her dad would've had to buy it. even if it was her money it could still technically belong to him. or if she was over 18 and had no credit or bad credit and her dad had to sign on it

@89 That's not true. At least not in TX anyways. My parents paid for my older brother's car when he was 17 and told him to sign for it at the dealership and they didn't even have to be a co-signer.

honestly, i can see a possible scenario in which this would make perfect sense. my sister has a car and currently owes me over 2 thousand dollars. if it were my parents i could see them telling her shes not driving it until she pays them back, especially living under their roof. while i agree this sucks, im still gonna have to remain wary of whether or not a similar situation has occurred...

Actually, if OP is under the age of 18, and still lives with her parents, she does not have legal right to any property. Phone, IPod, car, ext... they all belong to her parents until her 18th birthday. The law can be a bitch.

yeah let her drive it to work like once and while she's at work report it missing or even better let your parents drive it to the movies / grocery store and report it missing like while they're driving out of the driveway so that they dont get home before the cops find the car
