Today, I invited my deadbeat dad over for dinner, hoping we could resolve our issues and build a proper relationship. Just minutes after he arrived, I caught him stealing money from my purse. He actually said I owe him for raising me. He ditched my mom and me when I was 5. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Nice meeting you…
Today, I met my biological father for the first time. He seemed to be slightly intoxicated from the outset, and less than half an hour later, he had tried to intimidate me into "loaning" him several hundred euros for reasons he wouldn't tell me. So long, "dad". FML
Sneaky
Today, I caught my dad stealing my money again, after I'd warned him he was on his last chance. I threw him out, since he’s been sleeping rough on my sofa. He reported me to the authorities for "elder abuse" and showed them fresh bruises I know the conniving old bastard gave himself. I was handcuffed. FML
Piss off
Today, my horrible parents turned up to the restaurant I work at just to mess with me. Dad forgot his wallet, what a surprise, and asked me to pay the bill. I refused so my manager got involved. My dad got arrested, I got fired and might lose my lousy flat if I’m late on the rent. FML
Today, I saw my dad for the first time in ten years. He was stealing my car. FML
Today, my mom cleaned out my bank account, saying my "no-good dad" owes her child support and that she'll get it one way or another. FML
Today, after weeks of money slowly disappearing from the stash in my bedroom, I confronted my son about it. I'm not sure which is worse: that my son is a thief or that he actually blamed his father for it. We've been divorced and haven't spoken for eight years. FML
Deadbeat
Today, after my dad ran off 15 years ago, during which time my mom died, and I had to become my brother's legal guardian and somehow get both me and then him through university while working 4 jobs, my dad turned up on our street. He tried to flirt with me, because he didn’t recognise me. Scumbag. FML
Do you deserve it, though?
Today, I tried to reconcile with my estranged father after learning that all the things my mom said were lies to turn me against him. He refused and told me that he has a new daughter and that I'm not part of the picture. I know I deserve it but… FML
FINE!
Today, my dad and mom and I were going out to eat dinner. My dad wanted a romantic dinner just with my mom so he told me to make an excuse not to go. I did, which ended up as a huge fight, grounded and phone taken away. My dad just stood there in the background putting thumbs up. FML
That was quick
Today, my estranged dad drunk-dialed me at 4 a.m. to apologize, and to make amends. After crying and forgiving, we hung up. Minutes later, he called back to retract everything he said after remembering how I was rude to him at a party 3 years ago. FML

Kudos to you for trying to fix your relationship with your dad. I'm really sorry that he disappointed you though. You don't need him in your life.

Try not to speak to him again. He thought his wife and daughter wasn't worth his time, and he's not worth yours.

He's not worth it.

* ditched my mom and I

@26: If we want to get nitpicky here, no. "Me" is the subject the verb ("ditched") is acting upon, alongside "my mom", so that's the pronoun to use. Besides, if you take out the "my mom" part, the sentence would be "He ditched I when I was 5" and that sounds awkward as ****. OP is correct in using "me" in this instance. -A former English major

lol Exactly what I was coming in here to say. Although, I love it when people try to be clever and correct someone on the me/I thing and are wrong. :D

My birth father knocked my birth mom up with me and left before I was even born. He's a useless repeat drug user with a criminal record. My birth mom told me a couple of years ago that he resurfaced and wanted to meet me. I flatly refused. Maybe he's refined, but I guess I just can't bring myself to give him the benefit of the doubt. Anyways OP, you tried to patch things up and that is very commendable! I'm sorry to hear it turned out like that. Just remember, you are in control of your own life and future. If your father is going to act this immaturely than you have the choice to keep him out of your life!

Aww I'm sorry OP. Sometimes parents end up just not being fit for the job. Now get a taser and go get your money back.

I feel you, sweetheart. You did your best, but some people are so toxic, the healthiest thing to do is to cut them off - that goes for parents too. There will still be people who will judge you for taking the smart decision to cut off your father, but remember there are thousands of us who know what it's like, and we're with you. Stay strong, and remember that if your biological parent wasn't much more than a sperm donor, then you also haven't inherited any of his flaws, you are nothing like him, and you're stronger than this

Well you caught him in the act he can't deny it I believe it's better off not inviting him again
