Today, I invited my deadbeat dad over for dinner, hoping we could resolve our issues and build a proper relationship. Just minutes after he arrived, I caught him stealing money from my purse. He actually said I owe him for raising me. He ditched my mom and me when I was 5. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Nice meeting you…
Today, I met my biological father for the first time. He seemed to be slightly intoxicated from the outset, and less than half an hour later, he had tried to intimidate me into "loaning" him several hundred euros for reasons he wouldn't tell me. So long, "dad". FML
Sneaky
Today, I caught my dad stealing my money again, after I'd warned him he was on his last chance. I threw him out, since he’s been sleeping rough on my sofa. He reported me to the authorities for "elder abuse" and showed them fresh bruises I know the conniving old bastard gave himself. I was handcuffed. FML
Piss off
Today, my horrible parents turned up to the restaurant I work at just to mess with me. Dad forgot his wallet, what a surprise, and asked me to pay the bill. I refused so my manager got involved. My dad got arrested, I got fired and might lose my lousy flat if I’m late on the rent. FML
Today, I saw my dad for the first time in ten years. He was stealing my car. FML
Today, my mom cleaned out my bank account, saying my "no-good dad" owes her child support and that she'll get it one way or another. FML
Today, after weeks of money slowly disappearing from the stash in my bedroom, I confronted my son about it. I'm not sure which is worse: that my son is a thief or that he actually blamed his father for it. We've been divorced and haven't spoken for eight years. FML
Deadbeat
Today, after my dad ran off 15 years ago, during which time my mom died, and I had to become my brother's legal guardian and somehow get both me and then him through university while working 4 jobs, my dad turned up on our street. He tried to flirt with me, because he didn’t recognise me. Scumbag. FML
Do you deserve it, though?
Today, I tried to reconcile with my estranged father after learning that all the things my mom said were lies to turn me against him. He refused and told me that he has a new daughter and that I'm not part of the picture. I know I deserve it but… FML
FINE!
Today, my dad and mom and I were going out to eat dinner. My dad wanted a romantic dinner just with my mom so he told me to make an excuse not to go. I did, which ended up as a huge fight, grounded and phone taken away. My dad just stood there in the background putting thumbs up. FML
That was quick
Today, my estranged dad drunk-dialed me at 4 a.m. to apologize, and to make amends. After crying and forgiving, we hung up. Minutes later, he called back to retract everything he said after remembering how I was rude to him at a party 3 years ago. FML

Kudos to you for trying to fix your relationship with your dad. I'm really sorry that he disappointed you though. You don't need him in your life.

Someone's got daddy issues
SweetasCandy0609 28
#1 you have to actually have a dad to have "daddy issues" and like OP said her dad hasn't been around.

That's not completely true, 27. The absence of a father or father figure can make a huge difference in any person's life, so even if someone never knew their father, they would still lack the experiences you gather from having one, which causes "daddy issues".

#1 Having "daddy issues" is not something to poke fun at. Many people do, but they fail to understand how heartbreaking it would be to be without a father or for the father to be abusive. I'm lucky my dad has been around, but I'd never make fun of those who do have "daddy issues." It's not right.

Sounds like he's more trouble to have around. It's rather noble of you OP to even call him family, let alone pursue a proper relationship with him.

Sounds like he's got his history mixed up...

People always vote YDI for the hell of it.

I was just about to say the same. Idk how someone could deserve this.

Sometimes I hit YDI by accident. Clearly, OP's dad is an asshole and 100% at fault.

I think it's because she actually invited him over despite who he is and what he has done. still not a YDI though, people can always change.

YDI for being such an asshole of a 5 year old.

Punch him in the face then kick his ass out the door

I recommend adding a nut-shot to that too.

Right, I commend her on trying to fix the relationship. Part of me wonders if the dad has a drug problem
PoisonOrchid 21
Agreed. It's really hard as a child not knowing your parent. You always wonder, but sometimes it's honestly for the best. Sounds like OP is better off without her father, as hard as that is to accept.

wow.. call the cops!!! stealing is stealing.

I think you owe him a swift kick to the nuts.
Rayth 19
Personally, I would've kicked him out right there and make sure I don't see him in my life anymore.
greenbucket 6
I really hope you kicked him out.

Steal money from him, and if he figured out, tell him it's for your mom for raising you
Acacia21 23
Or something along the lines of "You owe me for NOT raising me" He deprived her of her father.
