Today, I invited my deadbeat dad over for dinner, hoping we could resolve our issues and build a proper relationship. Just minutes after he arrived, I caught him stealing money from my purse. He actually said I owe him for raising me. He ditched my mom and me when I was 5. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Nice meeting you…
Today, I met my biological father for the first time. He seemed to be slightly intoxicated from the outset, and less than half an hour later, he had tried to intimidate me into "loaning" him several hundred euros for reasons he wouldn't tell me. So long, "dad". FML
Sneaky
Today, I caught my dad stealing my money again, after I'd warned him he was on his last chance. I threw him out, since he’s been sleeping rough on my sofa. He reported me to the authorities for "elder abuse" and showed them fresh bruises I know the conniving old bastard gave himself. I was handcuffed. FML
Piss off
Today, my horrible parents turned up to the restaurant I work at just to mess with me. Dad forgot his wallet, what a surprise, and asked me to pay the bill. I refused so my manager got involved. My dad got arrested, I got fired and might lose my lousy flat if I’m late on the rent. FML
Today, I saw my dad for the first time in ten years. He was stealing my car. FML
Today, my mom cleaned out my bank account, saying my "no-good dad" owes her child support and that she'll get it one way or another. FML
Today, after weeks of money slowly disappearing from the stash in my bedroom, I confronted my son about it. I'm not sure which is worse: that my son is a thief or that he actually blamed his father for it. We've been divorced and haven't spoken for eight years. FML
Deadbeat
Today, after my dad ran off 15 years ago, during which time my mom died, and I had to become my brother's legal guardian and somehow get both me and then him through university while working 4 jobs, my dad turned up on our street. He tried to flirt with me, because he didn’t recognise me. Scumbag. FML
Do you deserve it, though?
Today, I tried to reconcile with my estranged father after learning that all the things my mom said were lies to turn me against him. He refused and told me that he has a new daughter and that I'm not part of the picture. I know I deserve it but… FML
FINE!
Today, my dad and mom and I were going out to eat dinner. My dad wanted a romantic dinner just with my mom so he told me to make an excuse not to go. I did, which ended up as a huge fight, grounded and phone taken away. My dad just stood there in the background putting thumbs up. FML
That was quick
Today, my estranged dad drunk-dialed me at 4 a.m. to apologize, and to make amends. After crying and forgiving, we hung up. Minutes later, he called back to retract everything he said after remembering how I was rude to him at a party 3 years ago. FML

Kudos to you for trying to fix your relationship with your dad. I'm really sorry that he disappointed you though. You don't need him in your life.

I learned the hard way, too, OP. My dad left my mom, 6-year-old sister, and me for another woman, and I wasn't even a year old at the time. I visited his house maybe five weekends out of the year, despite living, say, 20 miles away. When I did visit, he hardly paid any attention to me; he mostly wanted to see my older sister. It was worse when he had another daughter with his new wife, and I was only allowed to visit if it meant that I could babysit her when we went out to eat or to the community pool. He only really tried to get back in touch with me once my half-sister graduated from high school; he wanted me to be some kind of "mentor" for her and help her through college. Parents like that will only see you as a means to an end, and nothing more. I'm sorry you have a genetic material donor for a dad. And about that whole "owing me for raising you" trump card bull: even if your dad didn't ditch you and your mother, *he* faced the potential consequences and had a kid. *You* owe him absolutely nothing. Kids don't ask to be brought into the world, and he wasn't doing you some favor by doing so.

Throw him a nickel, a cent for every year he stuck around, and kick him out.

Why does this post have YDIs? Someone could post on here "Today, my wife and children died of a terrible disease" And it would get at least 1000 ydi's.

FYL op. my old man passed away when I was 4. I'd prefer that than the pathetic excuse of a man your father is. Sorry to hear this.

I had a dad who lived about 10 miles away from my mother, sister and I while I was growing up. He had beaten my mother and older sister, my mom left him before he could get to me. He stopped paying child support when I was nine or ten. Look, just LET IT GO. You don't "need" to "love" your biological father if he is not capable of being a decent human being. Let go and move on. You are not a bad person for doing that. If you keep this false hope alive of him ever being the father you want, you will do much, much more damage to yourself than if you let. go.

I would have done like Lily in HIMYM, just give the the stare and kick him right out.
