Today, I helped myself to a small glass of cocktail from the fridge, not realising it was alcoholic. I told my mom what happened. She made me drink salty water until I vomited so I wouldn't get "alcohol poisoning". I'm 19. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Bad babysitter
Today, I was babysitting a 9-year-old kid, when she got thirsty and asked for a drink. All I could find was some kind of Mexican fruit drink, but I didn't realize until too late that it was actually hard liquor. I had to scrub her mouth out with toothpaste and put her to bed to cover it all up. FML
Today, I was at home, my mom came and saw me holding what she thought was a glass of beer. She took the glass, threw it and slapped me for drinking it. I was drinking Apple Juice. FML
Happens at all ages
Today, my roommate had to ask to check if I was drinking water instead of alcohol. Twice. Then she 'suggested' that I 'might' be an alcoholic. I'm only 21. FML
Today, at dinner, I accidentally let it slip that I'd taken a small sip of alcohol a few years ago and hated it. My extremely strict parents are now trying to get me into rehab. FML
Today, I was feeling sick and ended up throwing up as soon as I got home. My mother's first question was an accusatory, "What have you been drinking?" I was returning from the AA meeting I have been attending for over a month. I go because I'm afraid I'll become an alcoholic like her. FML
Glass houses and all that
Today, my mum got upset with me for having my first hangover ever after being of legal drinking age for over 6 years. She is a closet alcoholic in denial who hides red wine bottles around the house. FML
Today, I confronted my mom about her drinking problems. After I blurted everything out, she completely denied it. She did this as she was drinking a huge cup full of vodka. FML
Suspicious minds
Today, I poured out a glass of apple juice to drink. I threw out a beer can from earlier, and my mom thought I was drinking alcohol, not juice. She scolded me, until I made her physically taste the juice. FML
Hair of the dog
Today, after a big house party the night before, I woke up with a dry mouth and a pounding hangover. I took a swig from a cup I'd left on my bedside table the night before, thinking it was water. Nope; it was vodka. FML
Today, my dad was making drinks for my mom and himself, so I asked him to make me some coffee too. When he brought me my drink, I took a sip, and realized he'd poured salt in it. As I gagged, he muttered, "Next time, make it yourself." FML

Why would you tell your mom?

Thank god your mother was there to save you from the evils of a sip of Satan's Brew! Just imagine, if she hadn't been there, you would have surely succumbed to the poison and the drunken hilarity that would have inevitably ensued!

The legal age is 21

Most places in the UK only require you to be 18.

If I can join the army at 18 then I should be able to go to a bar as well

Legal age of alcohol consumption and purchase is 18 in the UK.

Actually, almost the entire world has the legal drinking age set at 18 or younger. Nicaragua and South Korea are 19. Iceland, Japan, and Paraguay are 20. Fiji, Pakistan, Palau, Sri Lanka, and the United States are 21. And I believe India is 25.

#132 - Legal age in the UK, where the OP is according to their location, is 18. So he/she is drinking legally.
DelphiCat 17
Actually, since this incident occurred in their own home, assuming OP to actually be in the UK, legally, there is no minimum age. Its not especially relevant, i just thought i'd share :)

I'm sorry, but could you direct me to the piece of legislation that says it's legal to drink if you're under 18 in the UK? No matter where you are, including the privacy of your home, it's still illegal to drink if you're under 18.
DelphiCat 17
Yes, yes i can. Google 'UK legal alcohol in own home' its right there on the government website, clear as day. (i don't think i can post a link) I cant believe you didn't know that! (someone missed out :P) Its also legal for 16+ to have alcohol when they eat out provided they are accompanied by an adult :)

Why would you tell her, and why would you let her do that to you?

He didn't know he would get salt water pumped down his throat and I'm sure she forced him to drink it. Poor guy.

Reply to my previous comment, the mother made OP drink salt (no sense) and water on top of it? Even worse.

... Are you an idiot?... Just wondering but... Have you ever heard of salt water?
m3lyc 18
Salt water induces vomiting, it's why James Bond grabbed a glass and a pot of salt then went into bathroom and put water and salt into the glass after being poisoned in "Casino Royale".

Are you an idiot? I said in response to my previous comment, it did not reply to my previous comment.

I was not aware that five year olds understood the concept of alcohol poisoning or intoxication

Are you retarded? Just walk away and tell your mother to mind her own business.

Nag your mother about keeping cocktails in the fridge. Insinuate she (or another family member) may be an alcoholic.

Why did you tell your mom, and why are you still at home if your 19? You pussy.

Who cares whether she still lives with her parents or not? I'm 23 and still live with mine. It's alot cheaper, easier and you're guaranteed to stay without getting into debt. For me to move into my own place through the council (cheapest option), I would end up MILES away (around 1 and a half hour travel) from my parents and end up in a crappy 1-bed flat in a converted semi-detached house in one of the roughest and most delapidated towns in West Yorkshire where most of the women complain that it's almost possible to get an STD off a toilet seat, and you're scared to go out at night and without a companion. And to rent privately is EXTREMELY expensive. And before you ask, yes I do help pay for the bills etc of the house I live in with my parents (known as board and lodgings).

Hey, douchebag, many 19-year-olds are. Plenty of them also have to pay for college expenses, but judging by your username you probably know nothing about how expensive that shit gets. At the end of the day it's cheaper for most to just help pay bills than go and spend twice as much on a tiny, inconvenient apartment that they could potentially have to share with others, which lends itself to a variety of other issues. Obviously most of them will end up moving out when they gain financial stability - a wise move, really.

Does your mother often confuse 2011 with 1811?
