Today, I had a mental breakdown after going through severe depression for several years. I told my boyfriend that everybody thinks I'm useless, to which he replied, "No you're not. You cook me good dinners." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my boyfriend told me that he feels empty inside when I'm not in the kitchen. This is the most romantic thing he has said to me in the past two years. FML
Supportive
Today, I had a mental breakdown. Many things have been going completely wrong in my life, and I finally decided to let my boyfriend know about it. After about an hour of explaining and pouring my heart out, his response was, "I think we were better off as friends." FML
Today, I told my boyfriend of nine months that depression runs in my family and I think the reason I've been flipping shit so much lately may be that I am depressed. Not five minutes later he decided a break would be "the best thing for us right now." FML
Today, I admitted to my boyfriend of three years that I have been suffering from depression for a while now. He took it as a good time to dump me. FML
Wild mood swings
Today, my boyfriend, who is supposed to protect me from murderers and rapists, had an emotional breakdown because he was so excited that I'd cooked french fries for dinner. FML
Run, run away pronto
Today, my fiancé yelled at me after I got off the phone with my friends, because I said I hadn't felt this happy and hadn't laughed this much in a long time. He was also mad that I didn't cook him dinner. He didn't ask me to cook dinner for him. He then told me to go somewhere else if I'm not happy with him. FML
Moving day
Today, I told to my girlfriend of 5 years that I'm depressed about having no friends, no job and a difficult family life. I told her that she's the one constant that keeps me going. She decided this was a good time to break up with me to "find" herself, since I was being so mopey. FML
Thanks
Today, I was talking to my boyfriend, feeling pretty low. I said something along the lines of, "You like me even when I look like shit." He replied, "Ah, that's just how you naturally look." FML
Today, my boyfriend and I broke up. I said that at least I was always there for him when he needed me. He said "When did I need you?" FML
Today, my boyfriend called and asked me why I love him. I told him because he's always there for me and continues to put up with my bipolar disorder. He promptly said "not anymore" and hung up. FML

I think cooking good dinners is better than being a crappy cook, nice work!

Enough with the woman jokes. Seriously at first i can take it,, but constantly bagging on a woman or whatever for her "being out of the kitchen" its getting old. Woman are alot more useful the people think they are people just like men. they arent kids that everyone treats like shit. They are useful human beings. and for all the guys who actually think like this. ill be laughing when your gf, wife, or whatever leaves you and you starve to death. becuas you wont cook on yl because you expect a girl to do it... bastards.

Okay. Not only is the premise full of bull - not everybody thinks you're useless if you BF isn't among them - but you don't even know how to take a compliment when you get one (assuming it's not a joke). Besides that, if it really mattered that much more than you're shattered ego, you might be able to find something "useful" to do with your life if you quit being such an emo all the time.

She said she's been severely depressed for several years, not that she has mental breakdowns every day. Depression is a bitch. It distorts your thinking. He boyfriend was inconsiderate, although hopefully trying to make her laugh, but there are some times people just can't take a joke- even if they usually can quite well. She's not "emo," if she actually is depressed. What she needs is therapy and medication, since it is a medical problem, not just a bad mood. OP- make sure you're getting the help/support you need, and try to find something that will make your life more meaningful. Pick up a hobby or join a class or something. Force yourself to feel better. Good luck :)

So it's an FML because she can't take a joke rather than her bf just said "you make good dinners".

I've got Major Depression and I don't see anything inconsiderate about what her boyfriend said. It would probably make me smile.

What he tried to say: "You're a good cook." What she made it out to be: "You're only good for making me food."

I'm sure he didn't mean it the way she took it, but seriously remember she had a mental breakdown...and I personally would've tried giving her a few more compliments so that it might be easier to understand that I meant that I don't think she's useless. Seeing as she just had a mental breakdown and all.

Although honestly, she could be a really good cook and he thought he was honestly complimenting her. Most guys don't think, "I'll say this compliment because it's anti-feminist." Maybe he compliments guys on their cooking too.

Funny how many people like to diagnose themselves with 'severe' depression these days. Let me tell you something, 'severe' depression entails not even having the energy to get out of bed, not having the energy or will to do anything - including turning on your laptop and going on FML to moan about your boyfriend. Sorry to make assumptions but your boyfriend is probably used to your pity parties and doesn't want to feed it. It's an unhealthy way to live and annoying for the people around you. You need a good harsh reality check to make you see that you actually don't have it so bad, the world doesn't revolve around you and that you should be less self-centred than to throw around the terms 'severe depression' and 'mental breakdown'.
