Today, I gave my husband an expensive watch. The first words out of his mouth were, "You didn't use our joint bank account for this, right?" He then asked if I still had the receipt. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Rich people problems
Today, I got a gift from my wife. It was a beautiful watch. The same exact watch I'd sold to our local jewelers for 6k. She bought it for 10k. When I told her, she said, "Hmmm, I thought it looked familiar." There goes 4K from our joint account. I could’ve thought of 4000 ways to spend that money. FML
Be grateful, you nitwit
Today, I got my husband a really expensive Bulova watch. He asked for brown. I got him a brown and gold leather watch. He said it looked to much like the cheap $10 watch in his collection and asked if I could exchange it. I can’t - no refunds. Now we are fighting because he can’t express his feelings. FML
Findom
Today, my husband got paid. I checked our bank account and was shocked to see we'd only received $300. I called him, insisting that there was some mistake. He said he'd started a new bank account in his name so he could manage our money on his own, and the $300 was my "allowance". I now want a divorce. FML
Today, my boyfriend asked me to pick up a few things from the store for him while he was at work. After picking up everything he asked for, I wasn't left with much money so I used $50 from my account. When he got home he then grumbled about me spending all of "his" money. FML
Checks and balances
Today, I found out my husband has racked up $3000 on our credit cards, and ruined my credit score. When confronted, all he had to say was, "Well you didn't tell me when you bought that ten-dollar t-shirt, so I guess we're even." FML
Today, my husband of 3 weeks told me he doesn't want to be married anymore because I suggested getting a joint bank account. FML
Return to sender
Today, my watch broke so I casually mentioned to my dad that I needed a new one. A little while later he hands me this really nice watch. He says, "Here, this one's been lying around for a while." It was the watch I gave him for Father's Day. FML
Skint
Today, my husband took me out for my birthday dinner. When it was time to pay, he took out a stack of gift cards. I asked where he got them, and he said he got them as a bundle at Costco, and saved sixty bucks on the meal. He then got annoyed with me when I told him it made me not want birthday sex. FML
Who? Where?
Today, my husband bought me a beautiful pair of earrings for my birthday, to match the necklace he'd spent months searching for online the previous year. What necklace? He gave me a watch he found at Walmart last year. I wonder who the lucky girl with the necklace is. FML
Help yourself
Today, my boyfriend took me to a very elegant and expensive restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. When it came to the check, I volunteered to pitch in half, which he rejected by saying, "I got it". Little did I know was that "I got it" was short for "I got your credit card." FML

Sounds to me like you don't know your husband very well. You deserve it for not only being completely oblivious as to your husband's preference when it comes to spending money, but also for thinking that spending however much money amounts to "an expensive watch" was a good idea in the first place.

You'd think appreciation would be his first thought..

If your husband doesn't like the watch or how much you (or he) paid for it, then asking if you still have the receipt is a valid question. Like hotdogcore said, it's a YDI for not knowing your husband.

Ouch. What a mean thing to say. I think most people have forgotten that old clichè saying, "It's the thought that counts." I can empathize with you on this; some people just don't deserve nice gifts.

What ACTUALLY counts is the number of jointly-saved dollars in the mutual account. You can count them, see? She didn't THINK about that, and made a pricey, autocratic financial decision. Major red flag to a spouse.

The thought is what counts, she just should've thought harder.

It's the fact she didn't think before she bought the watch... Does that count?

Well then he should never expect a surprise gift from you from now and on. Or just buy him something real shitty and tell him to suck it up and be thankful.

Like an expensive watch he doesn't want?

I said shitty. Expensive watches aren't shitty. Just because he doesn't want it doesn't mean its shitty. He should at least be thankful.

Like I've said before, people seem to be forgetting that it wasn't just her money, it was his too. That's why it's called a joint bank account. Would you like it if your friend took some money out of your wallet to buy something for you that you didn't want? Yes, it's the thought that counts, but she obviously didn't put much thought into whose money she was spending.

She was spending THEIR money. Not his, not hers, THEIRS. That's what happens in a marriage.

What a douche! Spend the money on you next time

Honestly, OP was stupid to think that spending from a JOINT BANK ACCOUNT, as in BOTH of their money, not just hers, was spent on the watch. It's like me saying to my girlfriend: "Hey! Wanted to get you something for your birthday, but didn't have enough money to. So, I took $100 out of your wallet so I could pay the rest! Aren't I so thoughtful???"

47- Go back and read the post. The husband asked "You didn't pay for this out of our joint account, right?" Therefore it is safe to assume they also have separate accounts. Otherwise, why would there be an option that she didn't use the joint account. So it is just as likely she used money from her own account and he was just being ungrateful.

I think you just lost access to the preferable income of yours :/

He could be used to you spending too much money.

Ydi. You don't buy an expensive gift with both of your money. It's like forcing him to go a percentage in to buy his own gift.

Whatever the story is, he should thank first..

That's why I'd never have a joint account....but I also wouldn't buy an 'expensive' watch either, when there are so many cheaper ones that tell the same time.

Another smart man. The guys are blowing me away on this one. mwah.

I like expensive watches for their looks, not for their ability to tell time. That's why my phone is for.
williamcarter93 13
I can see that, but, some people cannot afford to have something just for the looks, and, also, a lot of the time one won't know how much that watch cost unless they are told...and, in the end, the time is the same. If I want to look good, I'll bathe and dress myself properly.
