Today, I found out why my boyfriend of 5 years won't propose/marry me. He would rather wait for his estranged wife to meet someone, fall in love, decide to get married, and do the filing herself. He doesn't want to pay the couple of hundred dollars for the uncontested divorce filing. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Congrats?
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years proposed without a ring. He told me he would get it once his divorce papers are final. I didn't know he was married. FML
Gamba
Today, my boyfriend is 34 years-old. We’ve been together for 5 years. He refuses to propose to me because “marriage is expensive” and “kids drain your wallet.” That would be understandable if he hasn’t spent the majority of his paychecks on March Madness. FML
Valid concerns
Today, my boyfriend admitted he didn't want to marry me, not because he doesn't want to spend his life with me, but because he'd seen two friends get ruined by divorce settlements, and he "doesn't want my hooks in him." I love him with all my heart and would never dream of pulling a marriage con. FML
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years announced that he is not ready for marriage, and won’t be for 'at least' another 2 years. Of course he waited to tell me this 2 days after he had proposed to me in front of hundreds of people, I said yes, and we announced it to all our family members and friends. FML
Today, I found out my ex just got engaged to a girl he met 3 months ago, shortly before he ended our 5 year relationship. His reason for breaking up was that he didn't believe in marriage and couldn't be with someone who wanted to get married. Right. FML
Not gonna happen
Today, my boyfriend of 5 years said that he wants to marry and spend his life with me. But first he wants to go be wild and single for a few years before settling down. Not only does he not see a problem with this, he expects me to wait and be faithful to him while he “gets it out of his system”. FML
Dependa
Today, my boyfriend called me explaining that he is getting married this weekend to a woman he met on Craigslist. Why? Because I won't marry him, and he'll make an extra thousand dollars per month having a wife since he is in the army. FML
Wedding bells
Today, my boyfriend of several years told me the only way he’d ever consider getting married was if we had no wedding, just signing the paper at the courthouse with no ceremony or guests whatsoever, and as long as we don’t tell anyone about it. He doesn’t get why I’m devastated. FML
Hope springs eternal
Today, my girlfriend rejected my proposal, claiming she refuses to get married until she finally finds her dad, so he can walk her down the aisle. Babe, he walked out when you were 7 and hasn't been seen or contacted you since. Just say you don't wanna marry me so we can both move on. FML
Tax evasion
Today, my long-term boyfriend still does not want to get married and file our taxes jointly, but rather wants to claim me as a “dependent” so he gets a bigger refund. FML

You didn't think it was odd that your boyfriend has been married for the 5 years you've been together and hasn't even tried to get divorced?

You have to wonder if he really loves you that much or if he's committed if such an arbitrary amount of money is stopping him from moving on...

the boyfriend probably wants to try and make sure his wife is happy before moving on. its misguided in this case, but thats what i think. either that, or his fiancial situation wont permit a couple hundred for divorce proceedings. or both. or maybe he just wants her to do it because he is passive aggressively forcing her to do all the work.

Regardless of his reasons for doing it, if he truly had the intention of moving his life forward with OP, he's had 5 years to save up the money, and 5 years to make an effort.

To be fair, some people are just *really* conservative with their money. I'm not saying it's reasonable, but if there haven't been any other signs, it seems a bit premature to start doubting his commitment to the relationship (especially if he's been with her for five years).

Definitely put that relationship in a box and ship it ex-island. ? If he really loves you and means it then a couple hundred dollars to divorce his ex wife would be nothing. Sorry OP.

Money doesn't stop love, that's all I can say OP, I hope you find peace with it.

Been there. Though it only took me two years to realize my Ex would never divorce. Emphasis on the 'EX'.

Hon, I think it may be time to move on. It seems he's really not that committed to you if he won't even divorce his ex.

And he's your boyfriend why??

I hate to say it, but my boyfriend is doing the same thing. We have been together for 3 years and I knew about it the whole time. it is expensive because his divorce would be an international one, making it pricy. his wife finally filed for divorce because she met someone else, and she's paying for the divorce. we are broke and she is rich so that is why I was ok with it
