Today, I found out what it's like to drive seven hours home with a woman who just brutally rejected your marriage proposal. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Next time, text me instead
Today, I drove 120 miles to spend a few days with my girlfriend. Less than 12 hours into my stay, she dumped me. FML
Today, I had to suffer through a four hour flight beside my ex. Yesterday, I proposed, on the last day of our vacation. She said no. FML
Today, I proposed to my girlfriend of 6 years. She said no. Why? She's already married. FML
Today, after being with my boyfriend for seven years, he finally proposed. To another woman. FML
Today, I drove three hours to surprise my girlfriend, who I hadn't seen in three weeks. When she opened the door, she gasped, told me to fuck off, and slammed the door in my face. FML
Today, I was cuddling with the girl I've been seeing for the past few months. She was saying how much she liked me and how much I meant to her. Reciprocating those feelings, I asked her to be my girlfriend. It was a HARD no for her. Then she drove me an hour and a half home. FML
Today, I broke up with my girlfriend. Driving her home, we got stuck in a construction zone. I waited half an hour with with my ex-girlfriend bawling her eyes out in the passenger seat as I watched the traffic lady eat her lunch. FML
Today, I went on a 70-mile drive to the next town over to finally meet this beautiful girl I had talked to online. To my surprise, she looked exactly how she did in her pictures, minus the ring on her finger and the fiancé who wanted to punch me in the face. FML
Today, after my girlfriend telling me for years that she would marry me in a heartbeat, I finally proposed. She said no. FML
Don't drink and drive
Today, after 7 hours of driving, I begged my wife to take over for the last 3 hours. She pulled out a flask and took a long swig, then smirked at me. I drove the rest of the way. FML

"So... What's for dinner?"

She isn't automatically wrong for rejecting it, oddly enough. And it's hard to trust the assessment of brutal from somebody who got turned down. Maybe he asked in a big public display and she had to either turn him down then, or say yes then tell him "actually, no" later on. Either would feel rough. Plus they may still be together, it's not always all or nothing.

I don't understand how a relationship can get to the point of one partner wanting to get married and proposing without knowing that the other parter's feelings on the matter. How long had you been dating? YDI for proposing 7 hours from home without knowing her feelings about marring you.

You couldn't just propose at dinner near home?

Awww!! I'm sorry! But instead of bitching about her on a 'social' website, talk to her! You need to have the 'Where is this relationship going?' talk! You have to talk about it sooner or later, and it's obviously playing on your mind. If she didn't explain why she rejected your proposal at the time, maybe you should bring it up and talk to her!

Maybe OP needed to get a ride back with her, and she was the one nice enough to give him a ride after he put her through that. Just saying, there's no reason to assume that they took his car.

Define 'brutal rejection'. Was it really that bad? Perhaps it was just an exaggeration. I hope you two work things out, if this is the case, OP. Otherwise, sorry to hear about that. :c
