Today, I found out that the lump in my wrist that keeps getting inflamed and sore is caused by sketching and using my laptop too much. Good thing I'm in my fourth year of studying to become a designer. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I had to buy a wrist splint for my carpal tunnel syndrome. Not because I'm a computer programmer or some hot shot web designer but because I spend ALL of my time playing Solitaire on my laptop. FML
Today, I had to buy a wrist brace for a repetitive strain injury. I got the injury because I was knitting too much. I'm 22. FML
Tunnel vision
Today, after years of being an avid knitter and typing for a living, I got carpal tunnel syndrome… from my wrists flopping around too much while I'm driving. I live half an hour away from the nearest city. FML
Stiff Little Fingers
Today, I found out that the stiffness I've been feeling in my hand is arthritis and that it's only going to get worse. Not only do I type for my job, I'm also 22. FML
Getting on
Today, I realized that every time I play video games, my wrist and elbows always end up hurting so badly from holding my controller/handheld games. I always have to apply bengay and wear braces. Arthritis is creeping up on me harshly, and I’m still young so this sucks. FML
Today, I learned that I have carpal tunnel syndrome. I got it from playing too much World of Warcraft. I got a disease in real life by living in a virtual world. FML
Today, a doctor examined my wrist, which is completely swollen and painful. He diagnosed a case of tendonitis and asked me, "Do you use this hand for a particular sort of sport?" I just smiled like a twit. FML
Carry that weight
Today, I was getting up from sitting on the floor. I lent on the coffee table to help support my weight and heard a pop. I'd bruised the tendons in my wrist and now have to wear a wrist guard for 6 weeks. FML
Read the TOS
Today, I had just finished an elaborate charcoal drawing as part of a college application that took a good week. When I read over the requirements, I found out it needed to be done in graphite pencil. FML
Today, I pulled a muscle. Not in any kind of sport or exercise, but while reaching for my computer mouse. FML

From sketching... Is that what they're calling it these days?

Yea. We all know what "using the laptop" really means, too.

That sounds like a cyst. I had one and it eventually went away, but if yours doesn't you should definitely go to a doctor and have it removed.

I have a Ganglion too. It doesn't affect me though, and a specialist actually suggested I burst it with a hammer, which I didn't because a ganglion in my wrist is far better than a broken wrist. And Whaddaya know, I'm a designer too!

Use an ergonomic keyboard and mouse. That keeps my ganglion cyst from flaring up.

Use an ergonomic keyboard and mouse. That keeps my ganglion cyst from flaring up. (sorry I'd put this in the wrong thread before.)

I'm in creative marketing and merchandising and get the same thing. I wear a wrist brace to keep mine in proper alignment. It's a pain to get used to, but once you do it helps a lot.

This right here is my biggest fear as a designer. I hope things work out for you OP.

I have the same problem. It's from writing a sketching, good thing I'm not an artist, or a student, wait I am.

If the drummer from Def Leopard could continue his career after losing his arm I am sure you can overcome this.

I have that in both my wrists. My dr. said it was because I have loose ligaments and the muscles in my wrists and arms aren't strong enough to compensate.

If it's a Ganglion Cyst (google it) there's a very simple treatment, you know. Bash it with a bible and it will break and go away for a time. I had one that was pretty persistent. I just bashed it every time I saw it and I haven't had it for a month now.
