Today, I found out that pretending to be a bum begging for money can get you stuck in a jail cell for a few hours. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Saturday night fever
Today, I was arrested on my 25th birthday and thrown in jail overnight for impersonating myself. FML
Today, I found out that you can get arrested for holding up a "Free hugs" sign. FML
Today, I spent hours playing my guitar and singing in the street, hoping to make some extra cash. About 3 hours in, I realized some punk had been walking around with a hat taking money as if he was with me. FML
Today, I had the cops called on me for acting suspiciously. I was using a payphone. FML
Today, my financial situation is so dire that I tried to steal toilet paper from work. I got caught. FML
Today, I'm so broke, I walked into a nursing home and pretended to be a gentleman's son just so I could get some free food "for him". FML
Desperate times
Today, I got a criminal record and a court date, all because I’m a single mom struggling to pay rent and feed my 3 kids, and I was desperate enough to trust a random man who told me to cash a fraudulent check. He dropped me off at the bank and ghosted me when I was being interrogated and booked by the cops. FML
Today, I stopped and helped a young lady stuck on the side of the road. Guess who got accused of forcing myself and got charged with impersonating a police officer. FML
Today, I was walking on the street when a woman in front of me dropped a couple of dollars. I picked them up and chased her to return it all. She insisted that it wasn't hers. I tried to tell her it was, but she wouldn't accept it. A cop saw me and arrested me for solicitation. FML
Today, I learned the hard way not to keep my own cash in my pocket while working as a cashier, when I was forced to give $30 to a scamming customer. FML

"panhandling" is a crime because it makes our countries look bad, the government doesnt want others to see homeless people, the government doesn't want assets/money going to them, they just want to let them die out and avoid the issue.Arresting them, kicking them out of their spots especially warm spots in winter quickly takes its tole. I survived the streets, i survived jail, i picked myself up got a job and am working to this day,and i visit the graves of my friends who didn't make it. get off your ass and work hard for your money Pretending to be homeless and panhandling just makes you a lazy piece of shit.

It's essentially a scam, obtaining money by deceit, or whatever term the law uses. If they were able to prove you were faking it, I think that may also count as theft. You basically mugged people without threatening to harm them.

There is no such thing as 'pretending to be a bum begging for money'. If begging for money makes you a bum - then you are a bum begging for money. I don't think that's a real good reason for time in jail though. Maybe it's reason to think about how society works

Yeah, don't do that. If begging is an arrestable offence, stop it.

It’s a crime in a police state. Homelessness isn’t a crime — it’s a symptom of a failed social safety net.

People who panhandle are why the giving spirt is dead.

Depends on where outside certain places yes they will call the cops. Especially if they have no loitering signs just because you thought you were joking doesn't make it ok. What are you going to tell the cops you were only pretending to annoy people and break the law?

It is illegal depending on the state you are in.
