Today, it was my best friend's wedding. The night ended with her in tears outside her hotel suite, where she confessed that she has a serious crush on me. I have a serious crush on her too. We're both straight women. I'm really confused. FML

You can't blame her. If you really do love him then you understand how she feels and why she is going through with it anyway. If she was encouraging you then that means that she was giving you a chance to step up so she could back down. The fact that you never did means that she got sick of waiting for you and acted on her own feelings. You should respect her relationship and realize that you were more worried about being rejected/embarrassed than you were about being with your crush. That probably means that it was a mere infatuation and you should just get over it. If it really was love then you wouldn't have worried about the consequences, you would have just gone for it.

Maybe, but she was already dating him. Her friend knew that her boyfriend didn't have feelings for the poster, so encouraging her was pointless. A real friend would have said at the get-go, "I'm really sorry, _____, but we're dating." To spring "We're married!" on a friend you've been 'encouraging' is not only a slap in the face, but must've made the poster feel like she'd been nothing but a joke among them for the last 2 years.

That could be true, but we don't know how long they were dating. Hell, we don't even know if the crush had feelings or not for the OP. The sad truth is that people will eventually go on living their lives with or without you. If you spend all your time waiting for something to randomly happen without any initiative on your part, the without you is a lot more likely.

I agree. While I understand "going for it" and letting your friend "have a chance" it sounds more like Op was a joke. Op has liked the guy as long as her friend has been dating him. It seems like the friend liked him too and just had more guts to go for it. Despite that, it was wrong of her friend to encourage her.

my roommate had a crush on my bf (when we were just getting to know each other and not together yet) and i told her to tell him so that him turning her down would be a reality check. maybe that's what OPs friend was trying to do. and even though it says "dating for 2 years" what it could really mean is they were "hooking up for 2 years and it meant nothing until one day it did but that's not a story for the grandkids so we'll just say dating for 2 years".
