Today, I found out that I wasn't going to be a father. My best friend is going to be the father to my girlfriend's child, though. FML

Okay guys, here's the story: my girlfriend and I were together for nearly two years, and one day she told me she was pregnant. I didn't know how to react at first, but I eventually came to terms with it and became excited for my son. Fast forward three months: my girlfriend is obviously pregnant now, and I was out drinking with my best friend. We took a great picture together in the bar to celebrate this great moment in my life, and then I asked him to send it me. That's when I saw the pictures of my girlfriend in a recent conversation. I confronted her, and found out that she had been sleeping with him, took the test, and it's his. I broke up with her and stopped talking to my ex friend.

Man, count your blessings. It may seem shitty now, but damn did life get better, not worse. First, you know you aren't going to have a child with a person you can't trust. You also found out who your real friends are. Now wash your hands of this situation. Dude, if she lived with you, and you can afford to, just give her the place, cut contact, find a new place, and walk away from it. I'm sorry for your loss, but you've got a new beginning ahead of you

43, where are you that it works like that? If my hubby and I ever got divorced, whoever got majority custody gets child support payments. So if she were to be with me, I would receive such payments, and potentially alimony. If I were to get re-married, the alimony would stop, but the child support payments would continue from her dad. If I were to then get divorced from the step dad, I could potentially get alimony from him, but no child support, as she is not his daughter and not his financial responsibility. The only way the step dad would need to pay child support for his step daughter, is if he assumed financial responsibility and adopted her. That's how it works in Canada anyway. And whoever is put down as the father on the registration, is the man who will be financially responsible for the baby. Where I am, the dad has to sign the paperwork agreeing he is the dad. Doesn't matter if it is bio or not. So if the mom suddenly decides she wants bio dad to pay child support, she can't. Even with a paternity test. She basically absolved him of all rights to the child when she put another man down as the father, so the bio dad is not financially responsible for the child. If he decided that he wants to be in the child's life it may be different though.
