Today, I found out my friends replaced the water in my bottle with vodka when all my fish died. Any water I don't finish the night before, I pour into my tank the next morning. Thousands of dollars and years hard work, gone. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found my brand new tropical fish dead in its tank because my boyfriend got drunk last night and decided to pour red wine into the aquarium. FML
Murdered
Today, I woke up and checked my fish tank. I thought the temperature was too low, so half asleep, I turned it up. Now all my fish are dead. FML
Today, I found out that just because my roommate doesn't buy alcohol, it doesn't mean she isn't stealing mine and slowly replacing it with water. That bottle cost me $150 and was destined to be a present for my best friend, whom I haven't seen in years. FML
Impatient fish
Today, two of my daughter's fish died after owning them for a year. Yesterday I spent $400 on a new bigger fish tank so that they would be happier. I built the stand, set it up, and got everything running. All I had to do was let it run for a week so that the pH would be fine for them, and then move them across. FML
Today, I noticed my 5-gallon glass vase/aquarium was leaking at the base. When I went to move the vase so I could transfer everything to a new aquarium, the bottom completely detached, sending water, sand, sea shells and fish crap everywhere. FML
Today, I bought a fish. I put the tank on top of the fridge so my cat wouldn't get at it. I'd forgotten to buy some things for its tank, so I quickly ran out to get them. When I got home, I saw the tank destroyed on the floor, and my cat devouring my fish. I had the fish for less than an hour. FML
Today, my parents were having a Christmas party. They went out to get the vodka in our garage fridge, only to find most of it was frozen. Knowing vodka doesn't freeze, they soon realized that I had been taking some and refilling it with water over the past two months. FML
Today, I heard on television that a body was found in my city's water reservoir. Word is that it was dead for over a week. I've been drinking and showering with that water. FML
Today, my friend is furious with me because while I was watching her various fish for two weeks, I failed to feed her favorite fish and it died. The reason I didn't take care of it was because she never told me she had it, that it was in her room unlike the rest of the fish, so I never saw it. FML
Today, I spent almost two hours cleaning my fish tank, only to find out that my cat had secretly eaten all of my fish while I was cleaning the tank. FML

Easily!! Depending on the kind of fish and the possibility of live plants and coral...it is not cheap at all!!

And thus Pixar was inspired to make a cautionary Finding Nemo sequel in which the protagonist develops alcoholism.

One fish can be a couple hundred when they're saltwater and exotic.

How could you not notice the difference between water and vodka??

Because both are clear and OP probably didn't take another drink of it in the morning considering they had no reason to believe anything unusual about it.

Maybe he didn't drink any of it.

If he didn't drink any of it then he would not be able to tell at all.

Well OP didnt notice because he doesn't drink it, and it was probably replaced overnight. Easy mixup, they look the same and you won't notice unless you smell it or taste it, and expecting nothing to be different from all the other times you did it, why would you?

I'm so sorry! I'm heavy into the trade, too, and know that I would not be speaking to those "friends" for quite some time. Mind if I ask what setup(s) you had running?

This was an expensive prank

If the fish were really that expensive why would you just pour water that you were drinking and was likely open into the tank? Can't some types of water mess up the ph? What you friend did was stupid though.

Having kept tropical fish before this also raises an eyebrow for me. You should be monitoring the amount of water you add and using appropriate levels of conditioner to prevent throwing off the ph balance or adding unnecessary levels of chlorine to your tank. In addition to that if they are fish that need to have their water maintained at a certain temperature dumping in a bunch of new water into their tank every day while they're still in the tank can be very distressing for the fish and even p

I just assumed it was a small bottle of water and since it was the leftover water from the night before would be super empty, maybe a few centimetres high of water. Nit nearly enough to really upset the balances, but enough to help offset any kind of evaporation.

I am wondering what kind of fish these are that you hadn't killed them by dumping random, untreated water into their tank. Unless you happen to drink water conditioned for your fish tank...

Coming from someone who has owned thousands of dollars in fish, it is very risky just pouring drinking water into an aquarium. Sure if you have a large tank it will balance it out, but I never add water without testing the pH and adding dechlorinizer

Guess who's gonna buy you new fish!

We always do the same thing with our spring water bottles. If you're using natural water and have a sizable tank, it's not strange because it helps make up for the water that evaporates over time.
