Today, I faced my fears. I've always had a weird fear of looking out of windows at night, afraid a face would suddenly appear. When I heard a strange noise outside, I looked out the window. Sure enough, the face of a man suddenly appeared. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was walking to the kitchen in the dark. Something caught my eye and I turned to see a man standing in the corner, clear as day. I jumped and closed my eyes for a split second. When I opened them, he was nowhere to be seen. I'm now terrified to live in my own home. FML
Spooked
Today, I came home late from work. As I got out of my car, I noticed a child-shaped silhouette in my bedroom window. I almost shat myself, since I live alone. I searched the whole house, sobbing in fear, only to find no trace of whatever or whoever I'd seen. FML
Today, I came home from work and went to open the door. I Iooked through the window and saw a man in my house. Terrified, I called the police. They came, searched the house, and found nothing missing. I went back inside and looked through the window and saw him again. It was my reflection. FML
WHO ARE YOU?
Today, I was on the toilet and jumped when I saw a face at the window. It was my own reflection. FML
Today, as I sat on the toilet, I heard a noise outside. I peered through the window and found myself staring directly at my neighbor. FML
Today, as I was going to bed, I spotted a man staring at my window from a neighbor's yard. Ten minutes later, he was still there. I freaked out, started crying, and contemplated calling the cops. My creeper turned out to be the neighbor's wooden lawn ornament. FML
Today, I walked into my near pitch-black bathroom and saw a person staring back at me. I woke my whole family up with my screams. The person was my reflection. FML
Freaked out
Today, I finally felt motivated to do some exercise. As I got my weights out, I noticed out of the corner of my eye someone moving about outside my window. I got scared and dropped a weight on my foot. The person outside was my own reflection. FML
Stay indoors, it's safer at the moment
Today, I was texting while walking up the stairs to my porch. When I looked up, I saw someone standing behind the porch door, and was so scared that I fell backwards down the stairs. Turns out, it was just my reflection. FML
Stranger danger
Today, I happened to make eye contact with a stranger standing on a balcony of the apartment building across the train tracks from mine. He ran his finger across his neck like a knife and winked at me. I'm afraid to go out again. FML

I apologise, I didn't mean to startle you! I'll be more discreet next time...

I'm so sorry I have this fear too, but it had to have just been a coincidence.

Well if you didn't look out there you never would've saw the man outside your window. He could've broken in while you were asleep

Please update! Who was it? How did they get up there? Or was it a mask someone put there to prank you?

This happened to me when I was younger. It was really dark outside and nobody except my brother and I were home. I was downstairs and the window was open, and this really big guy came to my window and motioned for me to open the door while knocking on my window really hard. Mind you we have bushes right in front of the window (which he jumped over). So I just stood there really confused and then motioned hold on and ran to get my brother. By the time I came back the man had disappeared. After that, I've always closed the windows after dark.

This is scarier than the real fml

You were a smart kid to have went to your brother. You must have avoided something big! Your kid self deserves a cookie.
MonstreBelle 29
I'm glad that, as a kid, you had the sense to go get your brother. I can easily see how a confused kid may have thought opening the door because an adult was asking them to would be the right thing to do, even if they've been taught to never open the door for a stranger.

I'm sure it was just a very unfortunate coincidence OP. More often than not you won't ever see a face directly outside your window. At least you tried to face your fears though so good for you in that regard.

I think we need a follow-up.

I have social phobias myself. I'll confess I'm not always good at practicing what I preach but it's always been said that facing your fears is the best way to tackle the situation. I totally empathize your situation. If u can find a way to slowly confront this like looking in the mirror so u see something comforting. Maybe buy a window pane and look into it. I'm no expert but just trying to help. God knows I need advice for tackling the s*** I deal with. And if u live where it's dark all the damn time thru winter I'm sure that doesn't help. Keep your chin up! I guarantee you will beat this
leogachi 15
@25 You can't guarantee that. Most people never overcome their phobias.

I don't think this particular fear of mine is severe enough to be considered a phobia. It doesn't cause the same reaction that other phobias I've struggled with have caused. It's more something I find really scary and creepy. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to write a well thought out comment of suggestions and trying to help. It was very nice of you. I also wanted to add that I'm sorry you have to deal with social phobias. I have social anxiety and I know how much it sucks. I hope you can find a solution to help lessen the severity of it soon. I'm currently going through exposure therapy for it (joining a website and commenting was actually a suggestion my psychologist made) and slowly, but surely, it seems to be helping. If you ever need someone to talk to, you can message if you want to and feel comfortable doing so.

I didn't say it would work retard. I said to try it. Read it again. Did I say it was a sure thing?

I I just wrote you a long message about how to cope and my phone died after about 30 lines of writing...ugh!! Anyway to summarize one thing u can try is buying a book by Edmund J Bourne, PhD. (I wish someone with anxiety would write a book! It's like teaching someone a foreign langue who's never spoke it!) Anyway the book is called The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook". It's ok and it helped me a little bit but it might do wonders for you. Anxiety can make you feel alienated but remember there are people out there dealing with this crap too; like me. I wish the best for you and hope you can conquer this. The fact that you are brave enough to admit it on an online forum tells me you have some control over this; even if you don't realize it. I'm always available to talk. If this were a more private forum I'd give u my email address. I find its better to talk to someone who can actually relate and understand rather than some hot shot doctor who has no experience with what we go through on a daily basis. Anyway, good luck..try the book if you want. I got my book at Barnes and Noble so it's pretty easy to find. Hopefully you can pull some worthwhile info from it. Take care... I'm right there with ya

70- Thanks for the book suggestion, I'll check it out. I know what you mean about psychologists who haven't experienced the anxiety not understanding. I used to feel the same way, but I've been lucky enough to find one that has personally struggled with social anxiety and that has helped a lot. Maybe you could see if there are any around where you live that have struggled with it themselves. Sometimes it just takes a while and seeing multiple people to find a psychologist/counselor that you really connect with and feel like they genuinely understand what you're going through
