Today, I facebooked my friends about my upcoming birthday party, and told them to keep the date free. I got several responses telling me that's not possible, because that's the day the new Harry Potter movie comes out. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Party hard
Today, I sent out a note to 300 friends saying that I'm having a birthday party in a couple of weeks. I asked to please write back if they are interested in coming. Two people replied. They said they can't make it. FML
Today, my friends told me they will be unable to attend my birthday party on Friday because they'll be watching the Vampire Diaries finale. FML
Today, my friends told me that they couldn't make it to my birthday dinner unless I changed the time, because I'd made dinner reservations that would clash with the new episode of Jersey Shore. FML
Today, I posted an event to have a get together with friends. Most of them put "not attending". I hadn't even set the date. FML
Today, it's been weeks since I made a Facebook page to arrange something for my birthday as no one was able to attend last year on short notice. Everyone was game but now everyone is flaking. One friend even said, "I'll see who RSVPs and then decide." FML
Today, the last person I invited to my birthday party called and said they couldn't come because another party "came up" and they "hope I understand". It's on December 31st. This happens every year without fail. FML
Party time!
Today, I'm having my housewarming party and had prepared food, drink, and games for all the 19 confirmed guests on Facebook. I waited till 11, but nobody showed up. I checked Facebook again and realized I had accidentally put tomorrow as the party date. I have to work the whole day tomorrow. FML
It's the thought that counts
Today, my friends threw me a surprise birthday party. The problem? My birthday is tomorrow. I spent the entire evening pretending I was surprised and happy, all while knowing they got the date wrong. FML
Parasocial to the max
Today, I discovered my friend will be upstaging my birthday by hosting another birthday party shortly afterwards. Not for her of course, but in honor of her favorite actor. FML
Et tu, Chandler?
Today, I found out that when my friends say they're too busy to hang out with me, what they really mean is that they're going to have an awesome pool party, and don't want me to come. The Instagram stories say it all. FML

to all of you saying the opening night is so much more important than the OP's birthday, um birthday comes once a year, they can see the movie any other night and IT WILL STILL BE THE SAME MOVIE! WHAT A CONCEPT! i don't get why people get all "zomghavetoseeitonopeningnightzomg!" on everything, from Twilight to HP. the story/movie won't change just because you did not see it on the one night it opened. you can go see it another night and celebrate your friend's birthday on the appropriate night. god people get a f**king life. You can only see the midnight premiere once. The birthday party can be any day, and a birthday party on wednesday or tuesday? Yes it will be the same movie, but it's only midnight once and these movies will be watched in film for a long time, just like the lord of the rings. It will be remembered more than a random person's birthday.

wow your friends are assholes. they can wait a couple days before seeing it... besides the first day seeing it would be nuts because theaters would be CRAMMED! harry potter shouldn't be such a big deal to the point where you can miss a once a year birthday for a friend. i say you should put your party on another day or get new friends

How can you expect them to go to a party the night of Harry Potter? Yes, it's only a movie, but you can't expect them to give up the opportunity to go to one of the only three midnight releases left in the Harry Potter world. It may seem like just a movie release to you, but to a true fan, it's an event that means the world. It's kind of like a once in a lifetime event. I personally plan my summers to make sure I'm free the day of Harry Potter releases. Call me a nerd, but they're important to me. Don't take it personally that they chose the release over your party. Just think of it as another party that they committed to first. It's kind of like, if your favorite band was coming to town, and you already had tickets, would you go to your friend's party instead?Probably not. So sorry that you're so selfish that you just expect the rest of the world to drop their prior plans and commitments just because you want to have a party. Obviously, you didn't research the date well enough. This isn't an fmylife moment because it's not about how much your friends hate you at all. It's about their loyalties to their literature, which is something more people should have. So sorry if you don't read Harry Potter, but you can't mess with the fanbase.
