Living his best life

Today, my husband, who I love more than anything, announced that he was gay, couldn't live a lie anymore, and moved out of the house. I'm utterly devastated, and when I tried to cry to my friends, they said I should celebrate his courage and stop being selfish, then ran off to party with him. FML

as long as we love live in a world with homophobia this will continue to happen. that being said, you're a victim too. You don't deserve being lied to and tricked. I'm sorry you lost your husband

That has nothing to with homophobia. The husband is a jerk for acting that way. I am not saying he has to stay with her but he could leave her in a civilized way. And the friends are jerks for not understanding her feelings.

It's probably not your fault that he turned gay. Even if you did, nobody's going to think you did it on purpose.

"Probably " not???? Dude, IF homosexual programming happens, then it happens during the time that sexuality develops, ages 3-6. I doubt she started dating him at age 6.

First of all, he was obviously being cynical. But just because it annoys me that people speak so surely about things that we don't know: Writing in Archives of General Psychiatry Byne and Parsons note the role that “choice” plays in the development of one’s “sexual orienta- tion”: “Conspicuously absent from most theorizing on the origins of sexual orientation is an active role of the individual in constructing his or her identity.” The authors explain: “This is not meant to imply that one consciously decides one’s sexual orientation. Instead, sexual orientation is assumed to be shaped and reshaped by a cascade of choices made in the context of changing circumstances in one’s life and enormous social and cultural pressures.” Byne and Parsons, “Human Sexual Orientation: The Biologic Theories Reappraised,” 236–237.
