Today, I came home to find that my girlfriend had repainted my bedroom. As she had offered to do it, it shouldn't have been a problem. However, she decided to return the several unopened cans of off-white paint that I'd bought for something "more neutral." Like "Sunset Orange." FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Paintwork
Today, I spent the afternoon painting my bedroom and was really pleased with how it turned out. When I moved the furniture back, I noticed a large patch behind the wardrobe I'd missed. The paint shop had closed, and I had no idea which shade I'd used. FML
Mix and match
Today, I started to paint the top of a piece of furniture. My husband had painted the sides a few months ago. I sanded/prepped. He went to buy the paint he had used. I was half done when I stepped back and saw that the colors didn't match. He forgot what he used, so he bought whatever, and "thought it would be OK." FML
Oh no, the humanity!
Today, I came home to find my girlfriend had dyed her hair a ridiculous bright color. She knows I absolutely fucking despise brightly colored hair on women. FML
DIY trick
Today, my boyfriend told my roommate about a trick he had used by filling nail holes with toothpaste when he moved out. When I came home with putty to fill the holes, there were blue spots all over the walls. She had filled them with blue gel toothpaste. Now I get to repaint, too. FML
Remodeling
Today, I finished painting my living room. I had to leave the house in a rush. When I got home, I found smears of paint all around and the carpet crusted with paint that had dried. My cat had rubbed up against the walls and tracked it around. FML
Today, my friend told me I'm not welcome in her house anymore. I've spent the last two months painting and doing it up for her, because she's pregnant and couldn't herself. I just finished the job. FML
Roommates from hell
Today, I got home to the smell of permanent marker and the discovery that my roommate's little sister had drawn flower petals around every polka dot she could reach on my walls. I just put up the wallpaper last weekend. FML
Today, my husband has been painting our house all weekend and plans to finish the job after work today. I decided to surprise him by completing the job myself. Painting the last window frame, I dropped the open tin of white paint, right onto our car roof. FML
Creepy
Today, my parents dropped by my new house, and my mother offered to tidy up for me while I was out. After they left, I noticed that her "tidying up" included throwing out all the pictures of my girlfriend and replacing them with pictures of herself. FML
Today, I was painting my room. I told my mom not to open the door because I was on a ladder just behind it, with a paint can perched atop. She barged in to ask me what I'd said. FML

Sounds pretty and cheerful. As a real estate agent I see so many houses painted boring old white, inside and out. Boring!

At least you will always have sunshine! You'll probably feel much better about the colour on rainy days :D

I like orange walls. My parents painted their kitchen/family room bright orange and I think the room feels "cozier" that way.

If the op doesn't like orange, it doesn't really matter what anyone thinks of his room. Blue is my favourite colour, but I'm not going to "surprise" him by painting his room my favourite colour. That would be like me going "Oh honey, I don't really like the books, games or movies you bought recently.... so I took them back to the store and exchanged them for better ones! I also tore up all the packaging and receipts so you can't take them back. Aren't you pleased?!?! I like surprises, don't you?"

Point for the GF. She's making things more comfortable and cheery for you both. Always remember, "if Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy". Plus, she did all the work! Tell her how wonderful she is for all of her thought and hard work, and she will show you what a 'great', if not a whiny, BF she has.

So, if your boyfriend exchanged your personal property for things he liked instead, you'd say "Thanks so much for your thought and hard work? You're so wonderful to decide what I want for me!" "If mama ain't happy, nobody's happy" = why would you want to be in a relationship with somebody whose that selfish?
My3sons 3
Relax. It's a saying.. In all relationships there are compromises and he never said anywhere that they did or did not discuss colors. It's not like she exchanged his season passes to his favorite team for opera tickets! It's paint! It can be changed to suit either or both of them.

#85, It's a saying about wives and mothers. OP's girlfriend hasn't made it to that level of acceptance. And if she keeps up the unilateral decision-making, she's less likely to make it.

I would say actually having communication in a relationship is a compromise, instead of doing whatever the hell you wanted without really considering the other person's feelings. If op wanted orange paint he would have purchased it for himself.

The OP can re-paint and quit whining...GF did what she did thinking OP would be ok, or she's a controlling bitch. Either way, it's on him... Communication goes both ways, is it too hard to say, " Please use this paint, babe?" or "What were you thinking!?" Communication is not a compromise, it is the foundation for a relationship. He obviously has not figured that out or he would have been talking to her about it, not us. Plus, he never really commented that he didn't like it...

If she is shown the previously purchased paint and still needs to be told "please use this paint babe, don't go out and exchange it for a different colour without even asking me" to stop her going out and exchanging it for a colour she likes without even asking, then she's a complete moron. If you have a boyfriend, do you have to constantly remind him not to hawk your jewellery and buy other things instead without even asking you? And if he does do that, I can only hope you'll just say "babe, I'd rather you didn't do that" because getting upset about that sort of thing counts as "bitching and whining" according to you. Also, it's on FML. If he liked the colour, it would not be on FML, would it?

Who the **** wants white walls? Too bland. Props to your girlfriend.

Put up some posters or paintings or something orange can be a good color or just repaint it if it bothers you so much.

Blue is a color you can never go wrong with.

Well...points for her doing it at least. But yeah, sucks she ignored what you wanted.

You should be happy you didn't come home to a hot pink room, unless you have a thing for pink?! Thank her :)

Paint it yourself next time! She did it to get back at you for her having to paint your room. Even if she offered, she didn't want to do it alone. She probably had some romantic notion of you two painting together. YDI!
SoylentCandycorn 10
Nobody made her do it, she offered to do it for him. Read the FML, please. You make the girlfriend even worse by making her seem like an spiteful, passive aggressive nightmare instead of just inconsiderate.

It also makes women seem like they can't be trusted. "Whatever they say, never believe them!"
