Today, during a meeting, the president of the honor society apologized for being out for a couple of days due to the flu, and wanted to get everything back on track. I mumbled that she hadn't shown good leadership by being out. I guess she heard me, because she said, “Neither does being a teen mom.” FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
You're next
Today, after I sent my daughter to her best friend's house for a week, who lives three hours away, her friend's mom got really sick half way through. My daughter came home early because the mom was too sick. Now my daughter isn't feeling well and I just found the mom has the flu. FML
Unethical
Today, I decided to take a personal day from class and e-mailed all of my professors saying I had flu symptoms. While standing in line at Starbucks later, someone behind me said, "Glad you're feeling better. Hope you can attend class tomorrow, we'll discuss lying." It was my Ethics professor. FML
Today, I told my mom that I got into National Honor Society and Beta Club. Most parents are proud but not her. She told me to get a job and that she was tired of my school shit. FML
Lazy comeback
Today, I was doing my job and trying to teach a lazy bunch of 16-year-olds. A girl entered the room just 15 minutes before class ended, so I snapped, "Someone had better have died for you to be this late!" She immediately burst into tears. Turns out, someone had. FML
Get out
Today, I got to my weekly drama group a bit late. Everyone looked surprised when I walked in. Casually, I sat down and apologised for being late. I thought everyone looked awkward, probably because it turned out I'd been kicked out of the group. The teacher had decided to announce it before making sure I'd got the email. FML
Today, after almost a week of being bed-ridden with a bad flu, my mom told me it was my job to clean the house. When I told her I still had a fever and didn't feel well, she looked at me and said in an understanding voice "It's okay honey, you can do it slowly." FML
Today, one of my classmates asked the teacher to postpone her presentation because she had to study and the teacher happily agreed. When I approached her, the teacher started yelling at me because postponing deadlines is irresponsible. I just wanted to make sure we didn't need to bring our book. FML
Sick
Today, I was supposed to work with this girl I really like, but I had the flu really bad. I really really wanted to see her so I forced myself out of bed and went to work feeling terrible but determined to see her face. When I got to work I asked where she was. She had called in sick with the flu. FML
Cruel world
Today, I tried to explain to my professor why I’d missed two classes. Even with a doctor’s note explaining my very serious health issues, she rolled her eyes and huffed, "Maybe if you’re ‘oh so sick,’ you should just drop out!” Gee, sorry for trying to improve my life through adversity. FML
Today, I went to attend my summer school class again after being out sick for a week. When I said "Here" during roll call, everyone started cheering and clapping. Apparently, my professor has been badmouthing me while I've been absent for pretending to be sick. I'm sure my grade will be fantastic. FML

When you're sick, you're sick. Sick people are unproductive and spread their sickness to everyone else, hurting company productivity even more. Staying home is the only responsible thing to do and you sound like a clueless asshat.

It's not good leadership to come in sick, potentially spreading the flu to everyone.

Well said!

I bet the next time you get struck with the flu and your boss won’t let you go home you’ll write an FML about that, fishing for sympathy. The president had a brilliant comeback. This is a YDI for sure.

Yeah, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones... Next time, run what you want to say through your thinking parts a few times before letting it out of your talking hole...

In french we say "turn your tongue 7 times in your mouth before you speak". Is there something similar in english? For my vocabulary ^^

I like that saying!!!

I am not sure if there is (not my first language iether), but there is a wonderful quote by Abraham Lincoln: "Better to keep your mouth shut and have everyone think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt". One of my favourite quotes of all time.

@Iamthebanzai22 Very nice one indeed ! I keep it in mind ^^ There's a funny one we have, not sure where it's from but it's something like this : "That's because light travel faster than sound that some people seem brilliant before they sound dumb" (great news "brilliant" means both in french and english !)

I think the closest we have an America to an official phrase is, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

Not the same meaning. I think the closest is just ‘think before you speak.’

I'd say it's worse to potentially get everyone else sick.

So you’d rather get the flu rather than her stay home and get better? How unfortunate.

How did you ever make it to an honours program if you spell ether instead of either, let alone neither, which would have been appropriate in this sentence? It can’t have been your fantastic people skills.

Workers deserve time off when sick, and that's not a bad thing. I get caring for one's job, but this idea of putting work above all else will always baffle me.

Sounds like some pretty good leadership to me...
