Today, because my fiancé is criminally incompetent at budgeting, I'm now having to pay the first installment for my own wedding ring. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my fiancé told me he didn't have the money to make payments on my engagement ring and that I either have to return it, or make the payments myself. Now we aren't engaged any more, and are "dating." FML
Today, I had to sell my wedding ring to help me pay for my divorce. FML
Today, I was shopping for rings with my fiancée. We spent over two hours selecting the perfect ring and diamond to match. When filling out the paperwork I discovered I left my wallet at home. She had to pay the 20% down payment for the ring. FML
Today, my fiancé pawned off my engagement ring so he could buy himself a PS4. FML
Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML
Today, I found out that my fiancé's parents are refusing to pay for a honeymoon, because they "didn't have one, so neither will we", meaning they won't pay for a single thing for our wedding. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML
Apron strings
Today, my fiancé told me he wants to buy an engagement ring for his mother, so that she doesn't feel left out. FML
Today, I found out that my engagement ring was actually my husband's ex-fiancée's. FML
Is she better than me?
Today, I found out my boyfriend, who is buying me a ring for my birthday, is buying my best friend a ring that cost 10 times more than mine. FML

I understand how love is a complicated thing, but something in your brain has GOT to be saying this is a bad start and is probably a sign of how things are going to be going forward.

I don't get the problem? We paid for our rings from our money. Why should your fiancé have to buy your ring?

Bad sign. You don't have to buy a ring, but committing to buying something and then flaking on it financially is unacceptable. Being frugal is great. Questioning traditional norms is great. Having to bail your partner out of an expense they deliberately chose to take on and had ample opportunity to plan for is not so great.

Im sure there are some people who are really bad at finance, but he shouldn't be taking money from you for the payment. That's mean.

oh boo boo, you're getting married with shared financing anyways. did you buy your own engagement ring? did you buy his wedding ring?

That's what I never get about things like this. At the point in life when you get married, you pretty much already split everything either way anyway...

As long as you didn't pay for your own engagement ring. My husband and I split the cost of our wedding rings, figuring it in as part of the cost of the wedding. We're now still happily married, and April will be our 12th anniversary. We're both equally bad at budgeting, and all these years later we're still trying to learn to save some money. As long as you love each other, and support each other equally in all ways, you'll be fine.

I would never understand people who get rings far outside of their price range. We spent less than 300 on our wedding rings because we had almost no money (recent college grads). But seriously this is concerning. Imagine financing a car or a houses with this guy.

My engagement ring cost 25 eur (about 30 USD) and our wedding rings about 80 € (90 USD). To each their own, but I could never understand spending so much money on a piece of metal. Instead of spending hundreds on rings, we splashed out on a kickass honeymoon :)

People who take out financing on something as unimportant as a piece of jewelry are idiots.

You should have never said yes if you already knew he was financially incompetent.
