Today, because it was our first Christmas as a couple, I was careful to get my girlfriend what I considered to be a very thoughtful gift. She opened it, took one look at it, made a face like I'd just kicked a puppy, and told me that in future it would be better if I just gave her money so she could buy her own presents. FML

Today, I bought my girlfriend a very expensive necklace. I gave it to her thinking she'd be extremely happy. Instead she was mad at me because my gift for our anniversary was better than hers. FML
Today, after buying my girlfriend a $700 bracelet for Christmas, I hinted that I wanted a pair of Oakleys. She told me I shouldn't get her anything and that I should expect even less. FML
Today, I had a very long, complicated talk with my girlfriend. Apparently, since she isn't religious, she doesn't have to give anyone Christmas presents, and yet expects everyone to give her some. She then told me what I should get her. FML
Today, I thought my mom and I could put aside our differences and open our Christmas presents. When she opened mine, she turned to my dad and said she didn't want the present, so I could give it to someone else. 'Tis the season. FML
Today, the girl I have feelings for gave me a really thoughtful handmade gift. She apologized for not buying something. I meant to tell her it’s worth more than anything, or priceless, but my mouth instead said, “It’s worthless." FML
Today, I've been considering breaking up with my girlfriend so I don't have to buy her a Christmas present. FML
Today, it was sister’s birthday. I decided to give her money instead of a present, because I couldn’t come up with a gift idea. When she opened the envelope and took the $100 out, she looked at me and asked me if this was the best I could’ve done. FML
Today, my mom and I went to Best Buy for some Christmas shopping. She picked up some presents for me and told me not to look at what she was buying. When we got to the register, she didn't have enough money, and I ended up having to buy my own presents. FML
Today, just like every other celebratory day (like my anniversary or birthday) I ordered my own Christmas present. My husband doesn't get it. I tried to explain. He openly admits he has no idea what I like and has no interest in learning, but wants me to have something to open so he won't look bad. FML
Today, my girlfriend came home and announced that she'd just bought a $40 pair of flipflops. She then declared that I wouldn't be getting a birthday gift this year due to budget shortfalls. For hers a month prior, I'd got her a $300 piece of jewelry. FML

Wow, that's just mean. If she can't even appreciate the effort, then tell her she won't get a present before she adjusts her attitude and appreciate what you do for her. If she can't do that, then dump her. She is obviously incredibly spoiled and self centered.

a little help for future bro, jewelry... thats how you win her over. get her a necklace you know she will love next year. dunno what you bought her but better luck next time. when your in gf stages always buy nice things and first few years of marriage after that all you need is random shit she may love by then it would be easy. lmao. although another thing to try is buying tv shows or movies she loves be sure that through the years to enjoy movies and shows with her no matter how boring they will be it will help the more time you spend together the easier it will be to find her interests, if she likes paintings, maybe sculptures, action figures, etc. etc. etc. it will all become more clear as you move on. gl. then again this coming from a random romantic who has no luck with the ladies lmao.

The point of exchanging gifts is to show that you care about someone. You can get someone a great gift that doesn't even cost money. Simply giving her money to get her own gifts is totally impersonal and serves very little purpose, unless she has no money of her own. If her attitude is that you should just let her do it if your first attempt isn't perfect, you're in for some tough times, honestly.

learning how to pick out gifts is not easy hints: jewelry works, do not attempt to pick out clothes for a woman way too land mines, buy her more of the same perfume she already wears. ask a women friend for advice once you pick out something check with a woman to see what they think about it
