Today, at work, I politely asked a patron to be quieter; I was hit in the face. I work in a library. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was working on a project in my school's library when a group of teenagers came in and began talking and laughing and being loud. When I asked them to please quiet down, the librarian asked me to leave for being too loud. FML
It wasn't me
Today, I was at the library. I went near the computer section when I saw this man cursing and pounding his fists on a computer. He left. I thought I'd check it out. As I sat down, a librarian came over with the security guard and pointed at me. I'm now being fined for destroying public property. FML
Glad to help out
Today, while at work, I was asked if I wanted to leave early. I said no and let my coworker go instead. Two hours later, I was punched in the face by one of my patients, with absolutely no warning or provocation. FML
What hell, lady?
Today, my friend wasn't responding to my whispers in the library, so I walked over and very slightly moved his chair. At that exact moment, the librarian walked in. Regardless of our efforts to tell her anything, she got us banned from the library. FML
Today, at my job as a librarian at an old library, I was shelving books. Things were great until one entire bookshelf fell over. The damage wasn't too bad. Then the rest fell down. FML
Run run run
Today, I rushed from work so I could get to the library to return a book that was due. The library closes at 7:00 p.m. I arrived at 6:56, huffing and puffing. The lady saw me, slammed the door in my face, and locked it. I now have to pay a late fee for 4 minutes. FML
Classic backfire
Today, I was in a quiet library, trying to stifle a sneeze. In the process, I let out an embarrassingly loud and dramatic snort that echoed through the room. Heads turned. Many stared. FML
Risky business
Today, I'm just a simple librarian. Last week, we had to call the cops on two separate aggressive patrons. Today, I had to call the cops yet again. WTF? FML
Working here sucks
Today, while at work, a customer refused to speak louder, despite me asking her to do it several times. As a result, I took her order incorrectly. The customer then finally decided to raise her voice, but only to yell at me about my poor listening skills. FML
Today, I was at work, stocking shelves. A customer got mad because I was in the way of her "shopping time" and knocked down all the work I had done. FML

You work in a library. I'm sure there are plenty of books detailing murders and the proper process of getting rid of a body...

I hope you kicked them out

Just is the problem for us library workers eh? People can be so unreasonable. I get this all the time at work too!

You get hit all the time by customers at work? You need to find a new job.

Or a bat. A bat could persuade people not to mess with you.

Or maybe a flock of bats, with the ability to swoop in and deal justice at OP's whim.

Well, not everyone who goes to the library is there to read books, I'll be polite and put it that way.

Please don't tell me you screamed when you were hit.

I also work at the library :D I work in youth services so unfortunately, noisiness is just expected and not much can be done about it since most of the patrons are little kids.

Little kids can listen too.

You'd better teach them now while they're young to be quiet in a library, otherwise they'll grow up and do the same thing, and good luck telling them then to be quiet. You'll probably get hit in the face.

maybe you should go to the childrens section, find a book on manners (how to use your indoor voice) and POW Right in the kisser!!!

Did you sneak up on him and whisper it in his/her ear? That's how I usually end up getting punched. .... Hello, Clarissssse...
KiddoKS 19
Did they hit you in the face with an anger management book they were reading? In all seriousness, hope you're not too hurt, though.

"Would you mind terribly shutting your filthy cesspool of a piehole and subjecting us to your discordant blithering? Thanks, much :) " You may THINK that's polite...

... But it's actually exactly what needs saying.

Perdix commented on my FML! My life is now complete!

I'm sure he did. You know how many books there are on silent ninja attacks? 17. That's a lot.

For someone who claims to be a "rugby lover," you seem to be kind of a wuss. Hasn't the game taught you anything about kicking ass? Go Maroons!
maximus_prime 24
Hey Perdix, just wondering which Maroons you are referring to?

#50, the ones you are thinking about!

I played rugby in high school which was 5 years ago. I would still be playing today if my doctor would allow me. She told me to stop after mutiple concussions, broken fingers and a broken foot... Man, I loved that sport!

I thought so, but doesn't everyone follow them ;-)

1. Next time, call security. 2. If you're security, buy a tazer or take martial arts classes.

Where do these alleged library security guards keep coming from and why can't I ever find one?? A public school library, MAYBE, but a standalone, public-funded library?
