Today, at work, I politely asked a patron to be quieter; I was hit in the face. I work in a library. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was working on a project in my school's library when a group of teenagers came in and began talking and laughing and being loud. When I asked them to please quiet down, the librarian asked me to leave for being too loud. FML
It wasn't me
Today, I was at the library. I went near the computer section when I saw this man cursing and pounding his fists on a computer. He left. I thought I'd check it out. As I sat down, a librarian came over with the security guard and pointed at me. I'm now being fined for destroying public property. FML
Glad to help out
Today, while at work, I was asked if I wanted to leave early. I said no and let my coworker go instead. Two hours later, I was punched in the face by one of my patients, with absolutely no warning or provocation. FML
What hell, lady?
Today, my friend wasn't responding to my whispers in the library, so I walked over and very slightly moved his chair. At that exact moment, the librarian walked in. Regardless of our efforts to tell her anything, she got us banned from the library. FML
Today, at my job as a librarian at an old library, I was shelving books. Things were great until one entire bookshelf fell over. The damage wasn't too bad. Then the rest fell down. FML
Run run run
Today, I rushed from work so I could get to the library to return a book that was due. The library closes at 7:00 p.m. I arrived at 6:56, huffing and puffing. The lady saw me, slammed the door in my face, and locked it. I now have to pay a late fee for 4 minutes. FML
Classic backfire
Today, I was in a quiet library, trying to stifle a sneeze. In the process, I let out an embarrassingly loud and dramatic snort that echoed through the room. Heads turned. Many stared. FML
Risky business
Today, I'm just a simple librarian. Last week, we had to call the cops on two separate aggressive patrons. Today, I had to call the cops yet again. WTF? FML
Working here sucks
Today, while at work, a customer refused to speak louder, despite me asking her to do it several times. As a result, I took her order incorrectly. The customer then finally decided to raise her voice, but only to yell at me about my poor listening skills. FML
Today, I was at work, stocking shelves. A customer got mad because I was in the way of her "shopping time" and knocked down all the work I had done. FML

You work in a library. I'm sure there are plenty of books detailing murders and the proper process of getting rid of a body...

I hope you kicked them out

Maybe OP was being a bit too loud.

People these days need a good ass whooping. I hope you whooped his ass. You will be off the hook due to self defence.

Even if OP would hit them back I'd think they'd both get a fine out of it. Nowadays you can't spit on the sidewalk without getting fined or hurting someone's feelings.

Hey, at least Mr Dickbag McPunchintheface took the time to visit their local library.

#3, I don't think you understand the point of violence. The loser doesn't get to tell the winner what to do.

I'd press charges

Really 44? For a slap? There are ways outside of going to the judicial system to solve problems. Instead, OP can ban (or speak to someone who /can/ ban) the person from the library. Seems more reasonable.

#44 must be american

45 while true that there are other ways to go about it, its very doubtful that this is the first time they've lashed out. the judicial system is there to protect people from exactly this kind of violent behaviour. who else has this person assaulted for no reason than they could? family, friends, other people just trying to do their job? the police are exactly the people OP needs to call to handle this, before "the patron" escalates their violent behaviour and people get seriously hurt.

66 promoting steyrotypes like that says more about you than about the people you're talking about.

Who thumbed this down? Some people can not take s joke.

To be honest, you should hit him back or call security to beat him up, employees should have more protections against workplace violence.

Security? At a library?
rosenkrieger223 24
My local library has a security guard on each of the 3 floors of the building.
Sputnikspak 13
51 - Oh yeah. Most libraries have security. My boyfriend worked at several libraries. He literally wrote a book about the crazy shit that happened there. Including a girl who returned a book with a used tampon in it. And if there is no security, call the non-emergency police line or your town might have public security.

Kick his ass out of the library!

Totally unnecessary, kick him out or call security!

Jeez. Maybe there was something wrong with the person?? I can't imagine someone acting like that..
Mr_Satan 11
There's definitely something wrong with him. It's a fairly common problem, and no where is truly safe from its effects. It's most widely known as "being a dick"
M3DIC4T3 29
Aside from the people who are dicks, most people don't act like that. Maybe this person was Autistic, and it's just sad because OP had no way of knowing, and this person obviously doesn't know any better. Hopefully whoever that person was will be able to get help and gain age appropriate social skills.
queerdragon 20
Why do you assume they are autistic? I have seen a mentally capable, normally sane man leap across a cash register and pull out some poor girls earrings. She was bleeding and he got taken away for assault. This man was my grandfather and he was 54 at the time and had no mental problems. Other than being a violent asshole.
