Today, at work, I politely asked a patron to be quieter; I was hit in the face. I work in a library. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was working on a project in my school's library when a group of teenagers came in and began talking and laughing and being loud. When I asked them to please quiet down, the librarian asked me to leave for being too loud. FML
It wasn't me
Today, I was at the library. I went near the computer section when I saw this man cursing and pounding his fists on a computer. He left. I thought I'd check it out. As I sat down, a librarian came over with the security guard and pointed at me. I'm now being fined for destroying public property. FML
Glad to help out
Today, while at work, I was asked if I wanted to leave early. I said no and let my coworker go instead. Two hours later, I was punched in the face by one of my patients, with absolutely no warning or provocation. FML
What hell, lady?
Today, my friend wasn't responding to my whispers in the library, so I walked over and very slightly moved his chair. At that exact moment, the librarian walked in. Regardless of our efforts to tell her anything, she got us banned from the library. FML
Today, at my job as a librarian at an old library, I was shelving books. Things were great until one entire bookshelf fell over. The damage wasn't too bad. Then the rest fell down. FML
Run run run
Today, I rushed from work so I could get to the library to return a book that was due. The library closes at 7:00 p.m. I arrived at 6:56, huffing and puffing. The lady saw me, slammed the door in my face, and locked it. I now have to pay a late fee for 4 minutes. FML
Classic backfire
Today, I was in a quiet library, trying to stifle a sneeze. In the process, I let out an embarrassingly loud and dramatic snort that echoed through the room. Heads turned. Many stared. FML
Risky business
Today, I'm just a simple librarian. Last week, we had to call the cops on two separate aggressive patrons. Today, I had to call the cops yet again. WTF? FML
Working here sucks
Today, while at work, a customer refused to speak louder, despite me asking her to do it several times. As a result, I took her order incorrectly. The customer then finally decided to raise her voice, but only to yell at me about my poor listening skills. FML
Today, I was at work, stocking shelves. A customer got mad because I was in the way of her "shopping time" and knocked down all the work I had done. FML

You work in a library. I'm sure there are plenty of books detailing murders and the proper process of getting rid of a body...

Ok sometimes it is nice to talk about the book with another person. And being told to be quiet is annoying

So after your initial skirmish it turned out to be all quiet on the western front.

I hope you got back at him. No reason for someone to put their hands on you.

OP here: I think I startled the patron, I'm a very quiet person :P So the punch was a knee jerk (or should I say arm jerk) reaction. For everyone who said that I should have hit the person back, I would prefer to keep my job :P. It's a pretty sweet gig; the library is at my university and with it being the summer term, it's not very busy (usually). I pretty much get paid above min. wage to do my own coursework. I asked the patron to leave and I haven't seen her since, so its all good.
