Today, at the gym, I see a person laying unconscious on the ground with people crowded around. Previously being a lifeguard, and knowing CPR, I ran over and asked a man what happened, preparing to check his vitals. I then realized that the body was a dummy and the employees were doing a drill. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I went to a first aid training course. I had to lie on the floor and pretend I was unconscious. We were supposed to be doing the recovery position, but the guy I was working with decided to perform CPR instead and grope my boobs in the process. FML
Today, we were working with infant and adult CPR dummies. After practising flawless CPR on the adult dummy, I announced "And that's how you save someone." Then I tripped on the baby dummy and fell. My co-worker stood up and yelled out, "And that's how you kill a baby." FML
Today, I was at work lifeguarding and saw a kid drowning on the far end of the pool. I decided running would be the quickest way to get to her, but as I ran across the pool deck I slipped and hit my head. The kid's mother jumped in to save her child and then called an ambulance for me. FML
Today, on my first day as a lifeguard, a man had a heart attack in the pool. I jumped in, pulled him out, and even went to the hospital with him. He seemed genuinely offended, saying "You should've let me die." FML
Today, I was at work as a lifeguard. The temperature was absolutely stifling, but I tried to tough it out. A couple of hours into my shift, I passed out, fell off my stand, and crashed into the water. Or so the medics tell me. FML
Today, I was working as a lifeguard. A woman began to have a seizure. Nervous, I went into shock and walked into a tree, knocking myself out. Post seizure, the woman stood up and walked away. Later, I woke up in the hospital. The ambulance had arrived to take her, but ended up taking me instead. FML
Today, I was swimming at the water park, when out of nowhere a lifeguard bombed into the pool, grabbed me, and hauled me to the surface, running his hands over my chest in the process. Apparently, the way I swim makes it look like I'm in my drowning death throes. FML
Today, I saw a man lying on the street. He seemed unconscious, so, being a nurse I went over and found he had choked. I removed the object from his throat and used CPR to revive him. My reward? A mouthful of vomit. FML
Today, I was at the pool, casually flirting with one of the lifeguards. He said that he would gladly give me CPR, in the event that I needed it. I laughed and thanked him, stating that it was a sweet idea, even though I wouldn't be needing assistance. I then choked on my bottled water. FML
Today, it's April Fool's day. I had to take a CPR class, and everything was going well. We took a break and I went to get a drink of water and started choking. They thought I was making fun of the class, and made me leave. FML

Because it's not an FML moment, it's an "I'm fully prepared to take an emergency citation on" moment, and thats awesome!

Because employees at gyms are trained to assist in all kinds of emergencies. Chances are that in a real emergency asking to help would just end up with being in the way. Also, it could cause problems with the gym's insurance. Last but not least, he assumed that everyone in the gym was an idiot, capable of only standing around uselessly, and that he'd have to save the day with his genius CPR skills.

While I can see the bit about the insurance, I disagree on the point about thinking they were all idiots. In a situation like that, it's less "I'm the only person that can save them, I'll play hero here!" and more "if I assume they know what to do and ignore it, there's a chance a person could die." It's not that you assume that everyone else is an idiot, it's just that you recognise the realism that not everyone knows what to do in that situation, and that many/most people (yes, even ones who have been trained) wouldn't be able to help (which isn't necessarily their fault, a lot of it is experience, so since most people haven't been in an emergency situation, most people couldn't really be able to help), so it's better not to assume that the situation's well in hand when there's still a risk of something bad happening.

Hey, that just shows you were prepared. You should've stood up right as you figured it out and been like, "That's how it's done!" and walk off.

Aha I agree with #3 :)

This isn't really an FML, but why the heck are people voting that you deserved it? What's wrong with trying to watch out of other peoples' lives?

That's what you get for trying to do the right thing

I've been here. It's slightly embarassing, but definately not FML worthy. A few friends and I were hanging out in a pool late one night, and one of them decided to see how long he could hold his breath at the bottom. While I was swimming, I noticed him down there laying motionless, and immediately grabbed him and pulled him up. When he surfaced, he was just like, "... what are you doing?", so I said "... Oh. I thought you were drowning. Nevermind!"

Lol, that is quite funny. But that kind of reflex could save a life in the future. Keep doing what you're doing. Perhaps you were mocked there, but you just as easily could have been a hero.
