Today at camp, we were choosing teams for capture the flag. It's embarrassing to be chosen last, but today I learnt it's even more embarrassing to not be chosen at all. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, at my softball game, there was one spot left for center field. The coach had to choose between me or the girl who forgot her glasses and was blind without them. He chose her. FML
Today, I was chosen as King for our winter formal. Even after I won, nobody wanted to dance with me. FML
Today, in my class I was nominated for the guy with the worst hairdo. I don't know what is worse, the fact that I was nominated or the fact that I felt let down when I did not win. FML
Such a healthy environment
Today, on my first full day on Marine Corps boot camp, my drill instructor pulled me and another kid in front of 200 other recruits to vote on who was uglier between the two of us. I won. FML
People never learn
Today, I was made fun of at work by my mom and my supervisor. I work at a kids' anti-bullying camp. FML
Today, I found out why I was always picked up last from school. My parents didn't want the other parents to find out I was their kid. FML
Today, I went to our school golf banquet, after being with the team and practicing every day for a few months with them. When it came time to get the certificates, all the names were called out. Except for mine. When I asked the coach where my certificate was, he said "Who are you?". FML
Today, I found out I didn't get accepted into a program I was nominated to attend at work that all other applicants with less experience than myself did. I found out when they asked if I had gotten the acceptance email. They didn't even bother telling me I was rejected. FML
Are you colourblind?
Today, I accidentally tackled my own teammate during a rugby match, so our coach made me walk the 5 miles back home instead of driving me home with the rest of the team. FML
Guys, I'm here!
Today, the summer camp I work at had its annual scavenger hunt, wherein the counselors hide and the kids look for us. It was my first year there, so some of my colleagues showed me the "best hiding spot." Two hours later, still undiscovered, I realized they just wanted to get rid of me. FML

I believe that makes you the Free Agent who takes flags from either side and is invincible to tagging. You also have to yell "FREE AGENT, FREE AGENT" as you run around waving the captured flags. If the other players find it disruptive, perhaps they can assimilate you into one of the teams. If it's not TOO much trouble.

You probably could've said something, OP. Or perhaps there was an odd number of people and last pick would have to sit out?

tbh when I was in school that happened every single time there was teams. Every. Single. Time.

Yeah I don't understand why teachers still let kids pick teams. There is ALWAYS a person left last - a 'loser', no winner. You'd think they'd have realised by now that team picking is a cruel and unnecessary thing.

sorry I didn't mean to press YDI..it's not nice that you didn't get chosen, I'd have asked why or : hey which team am I on than? you really should speak up for yourself, maybe the others thought you didn't want to participate..and usually when the last one is chosen, you're in the opposite team, automatically..

It's "chosen" last. Not "chose". Be more embarrassed with your poor grammar.

It was mean that you didn't get chosen on either team this time. But if it happens again, it's pretty clear that some kids (not all) have something against you. But things could be worse. Kids might haze you or bully you at camp. Plus, capture the flag is an activity but not a sport. Hopefully when the next activity is a sport and you're needed, they will choose you on a team. Don't feel embarrassed at all. You got to sit this one out and not worry about getting injured out there.

Exclusion from activities is considered bullying/hazing in the rules of pretty much every half decent foundation. Also, if they didn't choose OP for an 'activity' that involves vey sport like rules and movements, they aren't going to choose them for a 'sport.' Overall, the counsellors need to get off their ass and do their job instead of turning a blind eye to bullying, before it escalates. (And this sort of bullying? ALWAYS escalates. Next it will be OP can't find anywhere to sit for lunch or people taking their stuff. I've seen it happen a lot.)
frankmz 17
So because OP got excluded one(1) time, you are guaranteeing that he will be excluded for any and every activity while he is at camp and the bullying "will" escalate because you've seen it a lot of times? Instead of assuring OP that things will get worse at camp you should try to be positive and give him some advice on how to deal with the situation and hope that he doesn't get hazed or bullied.

Ah, frank, at it again with the 'oh maybe things aren't that bad' perspective. Look, I'll argue for the sake of arguing more than anyone, but this is a clear case of exclusion and while it doesn't technically count as bullying if it only has happened once(1), it's still nasty and hurtful and yes - if there are no consequences for the other kids' behaviour it may very well happen again. This isn't like some lottery ticket where it's like 'aww, better luck next time', these are kids deliberately excluding one kid and heck while they may have their reasons (maybe OP's an asshole? <-- that's a route the devil's advocate could have taken), things aren't just going to 'get better' if you 'think positive'. Someone (a camp counsellor??) needs to explain to those kids that what they did was hurtful and if there is some animosity and/or justification for the exclusion, sort it out productively.
frankmz 17
Yeah. I hope this incident doesn't get worse or escalate to bullying. And I hope that OP isn't an asshole. But from my experience growing up, the kids who are assholes don't get left out, usually they're the ones picking on kids and giving almost everyone a hard time. The positive perspective is just wishful thinking towards OP and anyone who feels hurt or not wanted. I hope things only get better for OP while at camp and that no kid gets left out or bullied. But that's like wishing for world peace.
