Today, as a kindergarten music teacher, my principal came in to observe and evaluate me. I thought I'd gotten the hang of managing 23 5-year-olds, but it was a zoo the whole 30 minutes and I didn’t manage to teach anything. I'm not sure I'll be keeping this job. FML

Yes, and after working on my classroom management strategies for younger kids my teaching is going much better now.

Did any of the “animals” get an injury that was serious enough to require outside medical attention? If not, you’re meeting the job description of a kindergarten music teacher. I hope you weren’t expecting a roomful of little Mozarts.

As a music teacher myself, I can definitely relate to this! Sometimes those days happen (especially in kindergarten). Just yesterday, I had to stop my lesson with my kindergarteners because they were so wild. I used to be a second grade classroom teacher, and I had a very similar observation experience. When I met with the principal, she was understanding and gave me another chance. That’s what a principal should do, so I hope that happens for you too! Don’t give up!

Kindergartners can be crazy, especially when someone new is in the room. I'm sure your principal knows that. And if she doesn't, do you really want to work for her?

This is the finest example of copy/pasting ancient, long-forgotten FMLs. Bravo!

Definitely not! This is my own story that actually happened to me in May of this year.

The principal has to understand the circumstances that it’s too difficult to round them up and keep them still. Ask for a teachers assistant or something. I think you’ll be alright. Good luck

Remember: the kids can smell fear

If it makes you feel better, one person is way too few to be riding herd on that many 5-year-olds. 1 adult every 5 or 6 children would work much better.

Sounds like a typical day in the life of a kindergarten teacher honestly, you'll be fine.

I was always very aware of these situations. Even in second grade I remember feeling bad for the teacher when students misbehaved during class with someone watching in. It didn't seem like anyone else realized that we were making her look bad.
