Today, after constantly shaming me for my ADHD and anti-anxiety pills, my family finally convinced me to drop $250 on their trusted psychiatrist friend because they thought he’d talk me out of taking them. He recommended higher doses of everything. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Vicious circle
Today, my doctor lectured me for 20 minutes about 'drug seeking behaviour' when I asked for more anti-anxiety medication. I need it because my shithead 15 year-old son found my pills and took them to get wasted. I need the meds in the first place because he's constantly pulling shit like this. FML
Today, I tried for 45 minutes to convince my psychiatrist to take me off my antidepressant. When he finally agreed to do so, I broke down into tears and sobbed uncontrollably for 10 minutes. Hello, increased prescription. FML
Take your medication
Today, I’ve been getting my ass handed to me by my anxiety for nearly a year. I talked to my doctor about starting meds. I got so terrified of the possible side effects that I not only had an anxiety attack, I also had a panic attack. I still couldn’t bring myself to take the pills. FML
Ozempic pushers
Today, my parents came for a visit and spent the whole time pressuring me to ask my doctor for medication to lose weight. FML
Lobbied
Today, I called my insurance company begging for a new doctor. All my current one does is prescribe antidepressants for everything. Migraines? AD! Dizziness? AD! Birth control? AD! I’ve been having rough periods and I’m pretty sure she’s just trying to push pills to bill us more. FML
I don't need a Xanny to feel better
Today, my psychiatrist prescribed Xanax. I thought that was a little extreme and that my anxiety wasn't bad enough for that. Within the next hour, I had 2 panic attacks. I guess I'm worse off than I thought. FML
Maybe that's a good idea?
Today, I told my parents about my life problems, after they forced me to open up. Now they want to send me to a psychiatrist. Don't trust anyone. FML
Today, I told my step-mom that my medication is causing me to lose weight. She looked me up and down and suggested I triple my dosage. FML
Nutso
Today, I woke up with one of the worst migraines I've had in months. My mother (who thinks I'm a hypochondriac) began to scream at me about "making up an illness". When I asked for my meds, she called me an addict, and dumped my $300 prescription down the sink. FML
Mother of the year
Today, after a lifetime of struggles, I was finally officially diagnosed with ADHD. Thanks to years of ridicule, punishments, humiliation and even beatings over something I literally could not control, I also have terrible depression and anxiety. My mom still thinks I’m making it all up. FML

why are they shaming you for it? those pills are really good and helpful a lot of the time

Try to set up regular visits with the psychiatrist. Keep a journal of when you take your meds, along with your moods and feelings.

Legit question. Do they? I haven't taken meds for my ADHD since I was a kid. I work in a job that works well with my condition but it's hard to manage my personal life. I'll get hyperfocused on little projects and then find I forgot to clean or go out and do things I needed. Or even have a social life. When I was a kid I hated how the meds made me feel.

fair. I think it varies. my anti anxiety meds work well. but they aren't for everyone

well maybe they might actually be less negative about you taking them since its someone they trust prescribing them?

There’s nothing wrong with taking those meds or needing higher doses. You’d take meds if you had a physical illness, wouldn’t you? Don’t be ashamed - take care of yourself in whatever way works best.

I would say that a good portion of your anxiety comes from your family. Take a vacation from them and keep seeing the new pshrink.

This is a good thing, in a way. His recommendation will validate your need for the medication to your family. You don’t have to mention anything about doses; just that he said to keep taking it.

Isn't this a good thing? I mean, now that their "trusted" friend recommended them, they can't say shit any more, can they? I mean of course they still probably will because they're likely a bunch of dumbasses, but at least now you have something to fire back.

I mean that's not really a FML but rather a win for you isn't it? The psychiatrist your family trusts and recommends is actually taking your illness seriously and also recommended to not only not stop the medication but instead to actually increase the medication. If your family can't accept that now when their favorite psychiatrist says that then they are just a bunch of people who only want to complain because they can. They don't want facts and only want to hear what they think would be correct. Stay strong OP and take the medication.

Stop eating petrol based food additives and you will see a vast improvement. Artificial colors and flavors are baned in the countries with national health systems.

Well, if the family friend recommends a higher dosage, it proves your family wrong and that you do in fact need the pills. So the joke's on them!
