Today, it's my birthday. It's also the day of my grandmother's funeral. I spent most of my 21st birthday in a cemetery. FML
Today, it's my birthday. My grandmother died yesterday. We were close and she basically raised me. FML
Today, it's my birthday. Today is also the day my grandma died, six years ago. Since then, I get to sit through any sort of attempted celebration while my mom sobs and drinks herself into a stupor in the background. FML
Today, I took a day off from work for a doctor's appointment. It ended up taking a lot longer than I expected, because while I was on my way, my mom called to inform me that my great aunt passed away this morning. As a result, I showed up extremely late and was berated. And the worst part? It's my birthday. FML
Today, it was my birthday. Two of my best friends forgot it, and so did my grandparents. All of my friends were busy, so I spent it alone in my car. FML
Today, my family is still telling me to "get over" the death of my great aunt. The great aunt who always gave the most wonderful birthday gifts, and was overall one of the most pleasant people I've ever met, and I'm NOT allowed to be sad that she's gone. Did I mention she died on my birthday? FML
Today, it was my birthday. The only person that remembered was my creepy stalker. FML
Today, my grandma bought me a cemetery plot for my birthday. If that's not weird enough, it's about a two-minute walk from where the rest of my family will be buried. FML
Today, my grandparents told me they couldn't make it to my college graduation, even with months in advance to plan, because they had their annual Mother's Day plans with friends. Plans they've had every year, and are further away. This was the only time I'll ever have a graduation ceremony. My grandpa is my last biological grandparent. FML
Today, after mourning and making my girlfriend cancel her big birthday party, I found out my grandma didn't actually die. FML

First of all, you do not celebrate deaths. You celebrate happy events. Secondly, from a rational point of view, you should give priority to people that are alive. Funerals can be arranged to take place on a certain day, but you cannot choose the date you were born on. Also, I doubt repeating the word '*******' three times in your comment makes it right.

Yeah, it kinda sucks to not have a fun birthday, but come on, I'm sure there's reasons why they chose this specific day other than "let's screw up X's birthday". You'll hopefully have many more birthdays to come, and there's no law saying your birthday party has to be on the exact date of your birthday. It's ok to not be the center of attention for once, a close family member dying is a pretty valid reason to not get that attention. Condoleances with your grandma, and happy birthday.

Sometimes you can really tell how young the average person on here is. There are so many things that go into timing a funeral:when family can get in town, when the funeral home is available, when the pastor is available and to be morbidly blunt storage fees. I come from a large family. The week my grandpa died we had 4 birthdays including mine but I was going to deny people closure because of it. I had a quiet birthday with my close friends and family the next week

The reason she's upset is because they could choose to do the funeral at another time. The one day that's supposed to be a happy day for OP is now turned into a day of mourning and she may feel guilty for trying to be happy on the day they buried her grandmother. I honestly would be mad if my birthday was turned into a constant reminder that my grandmother died...

I know what you mean. I hate that my birthday is a constant reminder that "Hey guess what? You don't have a grandmother anymore! Teehee". The only difference for me is, she died on my 11th birthday. The funereal was held a week later, around New Years. I don't celebrate my birthday on that day anymore, I wait a month and celebrate with my sister on her birthday.

OP, it's unfortunate about your birthday. However I doubt your family deliberately wanted to hold the funeral on your birthday. Things such as family traveling from out of town and when the funeral home is available play a part in when services can be held. Be a good grandson and share the day with your grandmother. A birthday means you're growing up, so show it.

I'm so sorry for your loss OP. That's not something someone should go through. My grandmother passed away shortly before my 18th birthday and there was a possibility that the funeral would be held on my birthday. I was "lucky" that it was two days later. Those were tough days for me as it was and I can't even imagine how hard it is for you. Try and deal with it in your own way and don't let anyone make you feel bad, for feeling however you may feel. My condolescenses to you and your family.

I'm very sorry for your loss, my grandmother's funeral is on Friday so I know how you're feeling. Little things will irritate you more then they should, and it sucks that they're laying her to rest on your birthday. I hope you find the strength to be okay and have a happy birthday. my condolences to you and your family.

My grandpa and I shared the same birthday. To commemorate his one year of passing, instead of doing it on the day he died in January, they did it on our birthday in May. I wish you a Happy Birthday!
