Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I have Lyme's disease. I caught it because we used alcohol on the area before we removed the tick that caused it. Apparently, that makes ticks vomit. I'm sick because a tick puked into me. FML
Today, I was diagnosed with a chronic pain condition. My parents seemed very sympathetic and my mother even cried. When we got home, though, they started laughing and asked if I really believed all the shit the doctor was talking about. FML
Today, I’m fighting a Lyme disease infection. A tick bit me while I was sleeping in bed, gifting me it. I lost 15 lbs in 6 days, and can't work while treating it. I asked for pest control. My slumlord dad owns the place, refuses to fix it up, and told me no. I have no money and now my wife is sick. FML
Today, I was rushed to the ER due to a very swollen foot and high fever. The doctors said I just have a tissue infection but my parents believe I have a flesh eating disease. I can hear them discussing my future with an amputated leg. FML
Today, just a day prior to my vacation starting, I learned that my five-day "seasonal fever" is actually due to a blood infection from a bacteria. FML
Today, I found out three things: One, I was apparently diagnosed with Tourette's as a child. Two, my parents apparently told everyone about it, and had no idea that I didn't know about this. Three, that the diagnosis is possibly incorrect. I'm in for quite the time. FML
Today, I went to the doctor's office, where my mother happens to work. When my doctor tried to prank her by saying I have chlamydia, my mother laughed and said she didn't believe it, adding, "Have you even seen the way she interacts with boys?" FML
Today, I went to the doctor to see why my walking pneumonia wasn't getting any better. It had. I've just somehow managed to also contract mono... while sitting home, alone. FML
Today, after decades of 24/7 cognitive impairment and being made to feel like a hypochondriac by many doctors over the years, I learned I have a severe physical illness. I kept researching and discovered my own illness, found out which test to ask for, and finally showed doctors proof. FML
Today, I was diagnosed with a condition that makes me lactate. I'm a 6' tattooed guy with a boxing competition coming up soon. I'm never going to hear the end of this. FML

You know that Lyme disease is spread by the deer tick, right?

Some families make me question humanity...

I'm not gonna lie, that is pretty funny! Lighten up, your family is only trying to make a joke :)

Would you think it funny if the OP had cancer and their family was making a joke of it? You should never joke about someone having a disease, especially not on the day they find out about it.

"Lighten up"? Lymes is ******* awful. Hopefully OP is one of the lucky few that caught it soon enough, and where the treatment actually works. Otherwise, it quickly becomes resistent to treatment, and progresses into something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. OP is going to need the support of their family. Treatment (months of a potent antibiotic) can make you really ******* sick, too. But I guess because it's not chemo, and silly Lymes disease, OP needs to lighten up, eh?

I guess I was a little insensitive in my above comment! My apologies to OP and anyone else I may have offended. Get well soon!

Missed a perfect opportunity to say lymes

*hugs* to you OP. Lymes is a bitch. Hopefully they caught it early. You're fortunate to have a doctor that caught it at all. I've got it. It took 15 (+?) years, countless doctors and specialists, and thousands of dollars for anyone to even suggest running a blood test on me. And unfortunately, that scenario is quite common. Whether you have a new infection, or chronic Lymes, please reach out for support. (Online if nothing else) Best to you!

They're probably just trying to make you feel better through humor. If it really bothers you, definitely tell them. Hope you're doing okay though!

Congratulations on having a creative and witty family! Of course, being a little bit supportive might be nice, too.
