Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I was working on entering a lot of information in the system. When I'd finished, I closed the screen to move on to the next steps, my boss came by to see how I was doing, just in time to see me looking at a now-blank screen. I'm convinced that my boss thinks I closed a screen that wasn't work related. FML
Today, I realized that I give the computer screen a thumbs up whenever I see something cool. I work on computers in front of people all day. FML
Today, my boss said I had to complete "Cyber Security Awareness Training" or face repercussions. For 33 years, I've never needed a computer for my job or needed one to perform my job. In fact, the job forbids having a laptop or phone with you while doing the job. Did I happen to mention that I'm a lifeguard? FML
Today, I began training my replacement at work. She's a senior citizen. She got excited when I taught her how to highlight text on the screen and double-click the mouse because she "never knew how to do those fancy tricks." The job is entirely computer-based. I have to train her for 6 weeks. FML
Today, after a 16-hour day fixing the computer network at my workplace, I didn't even get a "Thank you". I did, however, get people whining about how, "That computer crap never works" and, "Why do we need IT anyway?" FML
Today, my mom has been calling me every ten minutes, asking me questions about her new computer. She called me at work, and I rudely answered her question. She called back, talked to my boss, saying she was a customer that called in, and I was rude to her. FML
Today, I started a new job. After being trained on several obscure computer programs I'm expected to use in just one day, my new boss informed me she's going on a week long vacation starting tomorrow. She's the only other person who knows how this program runs. FML
Today, my boss yelled at me for having Facebook open at work. That's fine, I closed it and continued on with my work. In a meeting later on I could see the reflection of my boss's laptop screen in a mirror behind her desk. For two hours, I watched her scroll through her Facebook feed. FML
Today, after two years of working from home, and being bugged by a relative every five minutes as I tried to work, I turned the tables by asking her something. I promptly got chewed out for interrupting something she was doing. FML
Today, I was on a conference call and digital meeting at work when I got bored and started surfing the Internet. Little did I know that my desktop was being shared. My boss was on the call and saw everything. FML

"No...no...sometimes I look at my keyboard to see what I'm typing, smart-ass!"

To say it in such a derogatory way, yes. Most non-manual jobs nowadays consist in staring at a screen all day anyway.

Every once in a while I'm looking at the report papers too

Sadly, she's not wrong (speaking as a software engineer for a major telecom company)

My grandpa backed me up by saying "Yeah of course, just like the ship captains, all they do is look out the window"

Your aunt is right, and 5-10 years you’ll be wishing that you chose a different career.

Nah mate, this field suits me well. It just sucked that a family member didn't see the importance of it, and disregarded it just because she's a nurse that doesn't "look into a screen all day", ya know? It has taken me quite a while to figure out what to do with my life, and I'm finally happy with what I've chosen. Which made it suck even more that she said it like that.

"That's okay, I know it's hard when you're older and don't understand how technology works. See, the screen is a magic window into the inner workings of my company, where the actual work gets done and tells all the other people, who aren't looking at the magic window, what they do all day. I know it can be hard to understand--you might try some basic computer literacy classes so you, too, can look in the magic window."
