Today, I started a new job. After being trained on several obscure computer programs I'm expected to use in just one day, my new boss informed me she's going on a week long vacation starting tomorrow. She's the only other person who knows how this program runs. FML

Today, I began training my replacement at work. She's a senior citizen. She got excited when I taught her how to highlight text on the screen and double-click the mouse because she "never knew how to do those fancy tricks." The job is entirely computer-based. I have to train her for 6 weeks. FML
Today, I'm starting a new job. Only problem is, I haven't been told what my duties are, who my line manager is, or who to ask if I need help. FML
Today, my boss quit his job and stopped coming in without warning. Guess who just inherited his tasks and responsibilities without the training or pay associated with his manager role. I was hired last year as a junior system admin. FML
Today, I started my new job, and was introduced to my colleague. She seemed old and quite experienced, so I thought she was going to teach me. I was wrong. It turns out I'm a replacement for her daughter, who used to secretly do all of her work for her because she has no idea how to do it herself. FML
Today, after nearly two months of working at my new job, one of my co-workers finally explained to me that the list of tasks that our boss gives me every day are actually HER duties, and as I complete them, she just sits in her office and watches Netflix. FML
Today, I excitedly got ready for my first day at my new job. I arrived on time, dressed up, only to find out they meant next Monday, not today. My new boss just gave me a weird look and said, "See you next week?" FML
Today, as I was leaving for a 2-week vacation after working my ass off for 2 years, my area manager handed me a project. It's a 3-week job, and he told me he needs it when I get back. FML
Today, after getting her "out-of-office" email, I realized that my coworker is on vacation this week. We're doing our final presentation for a major project on Thursday, and she hasn't finished her part. I guess I won't be sleeping this week. FML
Today, it's my first day as the boss, after waiting months for this promotion. Today is also the day my replacement, who I trained for three months, quit. Now I've got two jobs for the price of one. FML
Today, I was informed that- despite an already skeletal staff- my supervisor is leaving the company. Tomorrow. FML

If you've ever tried to "learn" a complex computer program without any help, you'd know that OP won't consider his boss's absence a learning opportunity. He wouldn't have submitted an FML post if he felt that way.

This isn't the old days where people were only able to learn things in person. We now have plenty of resources just a few keystrokes away that can aid us with learning various things. If OP has a question on how to do a specific thing, as it seems she has already been at least taught the basics, chances are someone else has had that same question and asked it on some tech forum somewhere.

Ive tried to do that at my job. The problem is,there are so many variations of programs and tasks that could be very close together that it's difficult to find help on the Internet. I've followed the exact instructions for how to make a pivot table on excel and it didn't work. I asked one of my managers and they gave me completely different instructions that did work. And I'm sure OP is dealing with systems more complex than excel lol

What do you consider "obscure"? You may be able to find online courses/resources to learn how to operate them by yourself. A few Google searches can't hurt.

Is it custom software or is it something that is just... less common? Because Google is your friend.

Not everything is Googlable (new adjective?). If it is, or there's a readme, then good for OP, but if it isn't something that can be researched, then it can be a shot in the dark. I've run into related scenarios in which people would run in from other departments demanding things that I have never heard of. I wish OP good luck! :D
