Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my father told all of us that he eloped with his girlfriend of two months. I'm engaged to the woman's daughter, and have been engaged since before they met, but now my family is making fun of me for marrying my "sister". FML
Today, my two closest friends declared that they hated each other. They're my bridesmaids. The wedding is in three weeks. FML
Today, I overheard my boyfriend talking to his mom about me. It sounded like they were planning something for me, like a marriage. They were planning how to break up with me. FML
Today, I called my mom to make sure she could attend on the wedding day my fiancé and I had discussed. She started off with criticizing the venue we considered, then went on to criticize my fiancé, and then stated she would under no circumstances help out, but demanded to pick my wedding dress. FML
Today, a week after my fiancé and I got engaged, his mother is already complaining that she isn't involved enough in the wedding arrangements. We haven't even set a date yet. FML
Today, I overheard my mother telling my sister that she expects my marriage to fall apart any day now. Apparently, I have no concept of what "marriage" really means. My husband and I just celebrated our 7th anniversary, while my mother is planning her 5th wedding. FML
Today, my wedding is scheduled for next week. Today is also the day my whole family had an epic falling out, resulting in my mother disowning my brother. Apart from having them taking turns sobbing at me through the phone, they're also not coming to the wedding. I paid the hotel rooms in advance. FML
Today, I found out my little sister is marrying my ex, and that my mother set them up. FML
Today, I found out that my fiancé's sister, who only got engaged a couple of months ago, is getting married before us. I wouldn't have a problem with this if she wasn't planning her wedding to be exactly like ours will be. FML
Today, my ex-husband and the woman he left me for, also known as my sister, are getting married. On my birthday. My mom is gleefully helping plan the wedding. She seriously sees nothing wrong, and tells me to “stop being a Bitter Betty and be happy for your sister.” FML

You don't live to make them happy..live your own life.

I feel bad for you. Talk to them and maybe you can make them think positively.

too bad :( but at least they aren't rude or something...

Honestly if my family hated the man I wanted to marry, I'd prefer they keep it to themselves than be outright assholes to a point that would make it difficult for me and my spouse to partake in family gatherings. And at least they're not giving you a dilemma like, "if you marry him the two of you are not welcome in my house". Things like that can put a strain on marriages, and who knows, maybe they will eventually grow to like him.

Well if they pretended to like him it's not as bad as them not allowing you to be with him.

I don't see what's wrong here their supporting you they just don't like him that sucks but nothing to be to upset about

They are just trying to be supportive of you. I'd have them sit down and actually discuss what they like/dislike about your fiancé. Maybe they know something you don't? Regardless, if you're marrying him you're the one that's going to be living with him, not them. Then again, no one in my family liked my sister's ex husband and she married him only to find out he'd been cheating on her.

I'd like to know if they have valid reasons for not liking him.

This counts as one of those things better left unsaid. Which is probably why they didn't feel the need to inform you of it. Look at it this way... They cared enough about your own feelings for him to not fill your head with their own dislikes. It's apparent they know it's your life and your choice so why be upset that they've respected your choice and feelings enough to be respectful and nice to someone they don't like??

That sucks but no ones opinion matters but yours. Your the one marrying him, not them. It's always nice to have the support of your family but I wouldn't worry about. You should be happy though that they are civil. When my mom got married, my dads mother told her that it must be so nice to have a father for her child because my mom was a single mom. His family was openly awful to my mother. It could be worse.

Spite them back by having a good life with the guy you love. If he's really the one, who cares what anyone else thinks? And maybe seeing how happy you are in your new life will soften them up. If not, distract 'em with grandkids
