Never the twain
Today, I did a stupid thing and told my work crush that I liked her. Now, instead of living unnoticed by her, I have to live with the knowledge she doesn’t like me and only talks to me because I’m a coworker. As a bonus, she did say at least I’m not one of those quiet ones who give off SA vibes. FML

"You're sweet but seriously, no thanks" beats the absolute hell out of being dragged up in front of HR to explain yourself and possibly losing your job. Take it gracefully and move on. There's someone out there who will be more than happy with you.

I chose to never tell my crush directly, but I was able to get my answer from asking other questions. Plus, FluffythePink is right. It'd be an HR nightmare. Something my other colleagues conveniently forgot when they found out how I felt. Luckily for our careers, I was only stupid enough to develop a crush.
