Leave me alone
Today, after applying at over 30 businesses over the past 6 months, I have had not one single call. I later find out that I was using my old phone number on the applications, and my secondary phone was my mom's. She thought they were telemarketers. FML

If we've learned one thing on this site, it's always double check your resume!

Nice, well, let's chalk this little experience as a lesson learned and try not to repeat it.

it's not very professional to have your mommy as a point of contact anyway! might wanna reconsider that for your next round of resumes

I immediately disconsider applicants whose parents ask for the application. If they're not grown up enough to talk to me themselves, they're not grown up enough to have the job. It comes off as being extremely presumptuous, even when that's not the intention.

Pikawhore - Having your parents review an application isn't a sign of immaturity, it shows the applicant cares about filling it out correctly. Would you rather have someone who doesn't care about making mistakes, or someone who makes sure things are done right? You want presumptuous, look in the mirror.

Um, I think pika meant when a parent comes to the business, asks for the app, and fills it out for the child with zero involvement from the child. Not just proof reading the app. If you're a teenager, it's OK for mom to drive you to the interview, but don't take her in the room with you.

My mom used to ask for applications for me when she was around town. She would then put them on a pile on my desk and tell me to fill them out. I wouldn't ask her to do this, she did it because she wants me out of her house.

Doc, as 37 said, I did mean the parent asking me for the application, asking me about the job, etc, as the kid silently stands by. I don't care about proofreading; I actually wish more people would teach kids about filling out applications/resumes. I don't think I was ambiguous? It hurts my feelings a bit that my favorite FML commenter would be so quick to judge me, so I hope you were just tired. Christ.

This is definitely a YDI. Always update your resumes when you make a change. It's understandable when you first do it, but after six months? I did that once when I moved, and I forgot to update my city. However I caught the mistake right away and changed it.

You can't do a proper résumé. Why should anyone hire you?
Pikawhore 21
Don't blame this on your mom. Did you even tell her you were using her as a secondary number? It sounds as if she was in the dark about it.

Only 30 in 6 months? You weren't looking very hard. I applied for 30 in a week when I was looking for work.

yeah ive done like 600
igive 29
Well I did 1000 in one day. Exactly one thousand.

This probably depends highly on the field of work OP is applying for. Brain surgery? Rocket scientist? Cashier? Walmart greeter?
Zebediabolical 45
With the proofreading skills and attention to detail OP has shown I doubt it's either of the first two. At least I hope not.

I hate to say it but YDI. Always check, double check, an triple check your information. Never use your mommy as a secondary contact and follow up within a week of an interview.

did you inform your mother about this poor woman didn't know these were people you applied for work for you should be ashamed OP blaming your mother when you didn't tell her

Always double check what you write down. It's an honest mistake that I've done one too many times. Like putting my parents address when I order something online instead of my own.

Attention to detail? yes NO Communications skills? yes NO Tendency to blame others? YES no You'd probably have gone 0-for-thirty on the interviews. Did you at least ask your mom if it was OK to use her number as the backup? I doubt it.
