Today, I saw a missed call on my phone. Thinking it was one of the multiple jobs I applied for, I called back. Turns out it was just a debt collector. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I got a missed call from a lady at an employment agency asking why I hadn't turned up to an information session for a potential job. Yesterday, the same lady told me the job position was canceled. FML
Today, while checking my voicemail, I noticed I had received one from a job that I've been trying to get in for months. Too bad they called two weeks ago. FML
Thanks mom
Today, I checked my inbox and realized I got an email from a potential employer, saying they were having trouble getting a hold of me by phone. They called while my mom was using my phone to look up directions to a place, and she answered, kindly hanging up when they asked for me. FML
Today, I got a call from "No Caller ID", which usually only shows up when someone calls from my house phone. Thinking it was my kids, I answered imitating a cartoon voice. It wasn't my kids. It was the district attorney's office calling about the job I applied for. FML
Phones, how do they work?!
Today, a voicemail suddenly appeared in my messages. Last week I missed a call from an Unknown caller, and no number was listed. Turns out they wanted to arrange an interview for a job I really wanted. They left a number in the voicemail, telling me to call them back that day if I was interested. FML
Probably not
Today, I missed multiple calls from the company I applied to. That was the supervisor calling, wanting to hire me. I then remembered my idiotic voicemail I made months ago where I pretended to answer and say stupid stuff for 5 minutes. I don't think I'm going to get the job. FML
Say my name, say my name
Today, after being unemployed for over four months, I got a call from a company I've wanted to work for for over 2 years. After they were about to set up an interview, they called me by a different name. After correcting them, they hung up on me. Turns out they had the wrong number. FML
Drunken antics
Today, I got a missed call from a job that I really really want. I completely forgot that my answer machine message was a ridiculous and rude poem that I recorded previously when I was drunk. Somehow I don't think I'll be getting a call back. FML
Busted
Today, I have been waiting for a call from a job I applied for. I soon got a text from my current boss, who doesn't know I'm job hunting, letting me know that the recruiter was trying to reach me. It turns out that the phone number on my resumé was wrong. FML
Today, I missed an important phone call. It's been so long since someone has called me that I didn't recognize my own ringtone. FML

Tell them they called the wrong number.

Classic Catch 22. Can't get the job without picking up the phone; can't pick up the phone without taking a chance it might be a creditor.

It sounds more like Schrodinger's phone to me. It's both the debtor and the employer until you answer.

That's not a Catch-22. A Catch-22 would be: Can't get a job without picking up the phone, can't pick up the phone without having a job. Schrodinger's answer is excellent.

You know those days when your day starts off without being able to find your feet.

Well it's one way to say "screw you I'm working on it!" and last I checked most people aren't bothered by being less than mannerly to a debt collector. I've heard many people answer phones with some quite colorful wording because of it. if you're willing to call a person a pig ****** you should probably be willing to do them the discurtousy of asking for a job. haha

Just hang up if you make that mistake again, although once you get a job you should start taking those calls and settling those debts. But, for future reference, debt collectors never leave messages because they know no one will ever answer their number again once they know it's a debt collector. A potential employer probably would leave a message, though, if they're interested in hiring you.

Getting a call from a debt collector isn't the end of the world.
