Today, I found my cat downstairs with a squirrel dangling from his mouth. When I saw this, I yelled at my cat to put it down. He did. Turns out the squirrel was still alive and run. I had to spend the next three hours chasing it out of my house. FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my dog was barking at a squirrel in the yard. I opened the door to let him chase the squirrel. I went to look at the dead squirrel and found out it was the neighbor's chihuahua. FML
Today, I ran over a squirrel. I saw it twitching, so I backed over it to end its suffering. It wasn't a squirrel; it was a kitten. The children it belonged to watched as I ran over their kitten. Twice. FML
Today, I woke up to my disabled mother screaming for me. Fearing the worst, I hopped out of bed only to find that she was yelling because her cat had brought a field mouse inside as a gift. The problem? It was still alive. I had to get it from him and throw it outside. FML
Today, I found a dead squirrel under my son's bed. Apparently, he has been keeping it there as a "pet" for the past week. FML
Today, I was walking down a path in the woods behind my house when I saw a squirrel. It ran away, but little did I know it wasn't running from me, it was running from the dog that had forced Animal Control to sweep the area. I ended up with stitches in my leg. FML
Today, getting home after a long day of work, my boyfriend came running out of the house. Being silly, I thought he was excited to see me. Nope - he was excited to show me the squirrel he shot. In the house. Apparently, we have house squirrels and a boatload of holes in the floor and couch. FML
Today, a wild squirrel managed to get into my house. I can't see him… but I can hear him in the walls. FML
Today, I saw a squirrel beside a tree. Thinking it was cute, I stepped closer, picked up a pine cone and tried to lure it to come closer. After about two minutes of silently squatting on someone's lawn holding a pine cone, I realized the squirrel was dead. FML
Today I opened the door for my cat and he brought in a rat with him. Now the rat is hiding in my house. FML
Today, I got home from a long day at work, hoping to just fix dinner and relax, only to find that my cat had come into the house with a rabbit, and is now stuck underneath the cabinet. FML

What happened was OP's cat went outside hunting and got the squirrel, then brought it back inside. The squirrel didn't actually get inside the house by itself. :)

Cats hunt and bring you a kill because they count you as part of their pack and think you're incapable of hunting for yourself. A cat doesn't know it's destructive.

A kid painting on the walls would be destructive, which is why you wouldn't allow them to do it. I understand a cat brings in a kill as a present for the owner, and that's fine if the owner doesn't mind having dead carcasses or live animals being brought in the house. However, I don't think it's ok to tell someone not to tell their cat not to do it. Especially as a live animal can be destructive to your house, and if you have children, live wild animals, or dead carcasses could be extremely harmful to your children. Again, it's fine if you don't mind having your cat bring their kill in the house, but I understand that some people do mind and I don't think it's fair to say they can't tell their cat not to do it or imply they are being mean or unfair to their cat for doing it.

My dog did the exact same thing to me. Except I was 9 months pregnant and home alone getting ready to go to the hospital for my c section at the time. This truly does suck, OP!

I never had a cat, but would always play with my neighbor's cat as a child. Their cat would always leave decapitated rabbits and ravens on my porch. My parents were worried cause they initially thought it was a neighborhood psycho person leaving mutilated animals. I later learned that cats bring you their kill as a gift.
