Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my father has been unemployed for 8 of my parents' 25 years of marriage, and my mom still supports him. I've been unemployed for three months and my mom is kicking me out. The difference is, I'm actually applying places. He just plays video games. FML
Today, my dad said he can't go to my graduation because he has to work. He got fired a month ago. FML
Today, as I was leaving home for my mall kiosk job, my dad asked me where I was off to. When I said I was going to work, he tossed an empty beer bottle to the floor, belched, and said "Bah! Get a REAL job!" He's unemployed and living in my apartment. FML
Today, after my dad got frustrated at me last month for not having a job and completely taking over my job searching, claiming it’s not that hard and he’d show me how it’s done. Since then, not one company has called or emailed him back and he doesn’t know why. Welcome to job searching in 2024, Dad. FML
Today, my dad screamed at me because I've been "spending too much money". He's been out of a job for 4 months and I've been giving him 300 dollars a month to help pay for bills... and his beer. FML
Today, being jobless and all, I tried calling my dad for a job after my many years of pride. He invited me to an interview to compete against 10 people, probably more qualified than I am. FML
Today, I finally told my dad that he owes me over 400 dollars, and that I need it or else I'd get kicked out of my apartment. He only gave me 70 and said to get a better job. FML
Today, my dad called my recently unemployed son a no-good bum for not job hunting. My son literally spent all day beefing up his resume and scheduling job interviews for the whole week. It's not the 1920s anymore, dad. You can't just walk into a building, ask for a job, and get hired right on the spot. FML
Today, I visited my dad. He gave the, "You live under my roof, you follow my rules" lecture since I didn't do my "chores". I moved out 3 years ago. FML
Today, I told my unemployed boyfriend to pick a town anywhere in the country that he thinks he can find work in. I offered to find myself a job there, find a flat, and pay for rent, bills, and food while he looks. He said I was selfish for wanting him to hurry up. It's been three years. FML

Parents often want better for their kids. You should probably follow his advice before you end up in the same boat and can't get a job.

I know a lot of parents with no university degree. That doesn't mean it's okay for them not to educate their kids.

if you are over 18 he's right, get a job. is he unemployed by choice or a bad job market? if he's lazy, you need to get a job and get out so your not supporting him. if he's trying to find a job , maybe he's too embarrassed to ask you nicely to help out with the household expenses.

He isn't wrong just because he is in the same boat.

Well someone in your household needs to bring home a paycheck. Serioulsy, get a job and move out. Don't let the deadbeat sponge off of you.

we dont know the situation, maybe the dad has al ton of savings, or he watches the kids while the mother brings in the cash? you can just call him a deadbeat over that, (except if he wanted them to get a job to mooch of their money, then yeah hes a deadbeat)

Well if you get one that might encourage him to get one as well...it's not likely though

hey, you know what your father may be unemployed, but what does that tell us? nothing! so many people are being laid-off for factors out of their control and their age scares off other employers. so you need to provide us more details. if he's lazy, fine, fyl.

do as they tell, not as they do

He doesn't mean no harm. If you're an adult you probably should listen to him :P
