Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my step dad stole over $400 worth of savings from me. He spent it on alcohol, fireworks, and a very large sombrero. FML
Today, I saw my dad for the first time in ten years. He was stealing my car. FML
Today, my mother asked me if she could borrow $200. Being the lovely daughter I am, I gave her my bank card to withdraw it herself. She gambled it away and maxed my bank account out. I had $1500 saved. FML
Today, I found out my father has been saving money to help me buy my first car. In the same conversation, I found out my mother, unbeknownst to my dad, used nearly all of the money to bail my drunken, deadbeat uncle out of jail for the fourth time a month ago. He's now back in prison. FML
Today, my dad came home from Vegas. Today, my college savings account is down by $64,000. FML
Today, after suffering a severe brain injury and receiving a large amount of money from the lawsuit for physical and mental rehab, I found out that my dad stole it all and spent it on himself. FML
Today, my dad had something to tell me. He'd cleaned out my bank account to pay off 38,000 dollars worth of gambling debt. My wedding is in 5 months. FML
Today, I found out my mother-in-law sold a precious family heirloom and gambled away the money. FML
Today, I came home and was greeted by my dad telling me that he pawned my guitar for gas money. FML
Today, I finally got enough money to buy the car I wanted for a year now. It was stolen today too. I had my car for 4 hours. FML

File a police report. I know it’s your dad but he needs to have consequences to his actions.

Report to police, cut all ties and take out court order disowning him just in case if something happens you won't be contacted for financial needs over him.

Exactly. Addiction may be a disease but the more the people around him enable or have him avoid consequences, the longer his disease will go untreated and worse off he’ll be for it in the end. It may not be easy, but you need to do it for your own welfare and his as well - he WILL do it again if he knows he can get away with it, no matter how much he says otherwise.
