Today, I found out my mother-in-law sold a precious family heirloom and gambled away the money. FML

Today, my girlfriend pawned in her mother's engagement ring so she could gamble at the pokies. FML
Today, I came home to find that my mother had sold all my valuable collector coins for cheap at a local shady pawn shop to buy herself a TV. The coins in question were worth enough to start a business. FML
Today, I was holding our weekly poker game with a few work buddies. My psychotic, live-in mother-in-law wasted no time jumping into the game, cheating me out of $150, my new wristwatch, and what little pride I had left. FML
Today, my mother asked me if she could borrow $200. Being the lovely daughter I am, I gave her my bank card to withdraw it herself. She gambled it away and maxed my bank account out. I had $1500 saved. FML
Today, the bank called saying we were late in the mortgage payments. I was puzzled because three months ago I issued a big cheque to my mum pay off the mortgage. I just discovered that she instead lost it all at the casino. Turns out, she's become a compulsive gambler ever since dad passed away. FML
Today, my father stole the money I'd saved up by working and spent it all gambling. I'd saved it up for a year for a new car. FML
Today, I enjoyed a lovely family dinner, but my irritating grandma kept trying to buy my purse off me, and kept picking it up to look at it. When I got home I realized all my cash and cigarettes were gone. FML
Today, I discovered my own mother has been stealing money from me for months when I opened my savings box to find it empty. FML
Today, my live-in mother-in-law brazenly swiped most of the money from my wallet, then walked out of the room as if nothing had happened. The worst thing is that my wife believes anything she says, so I can't do a damn thing about it. FML
Today, I learned that my daughter pocketed the money I'd paid so she could go to college. FML

While this was a very poor judgement on MIL’s part, I assume it belonged to her and was hers to do with as she choose. So technically it seems she had a right to do that… In my family, my Dad had something I considered an heirloom because of a family story. I bought it from my Dad at a fair price and am glad that I did so there was no issue on who got it when he passed, nor did Dad have to sell it to a stranger… Just because a parent or in-law owns something you want to inherit does not take away their right to do with it as they choose.

To be fair, she could have won and then wouldn't you feel stupid. I'll bet she could win it back next time.
