Today, I swam in a race against all of the girls in the midwest in the hardest, longest, most grueling race you can swim. I won. Happy but so tired I could barely move, I looked up to see my time. I had been disqualified. For flinching. Before the race started. FML

How is that grounds for disqualification? And shouldn't they have told you before the race started that you were disqualified?

yo fault, everyone else was just as nervous as you, and nobody else flinched. That said, if that happened to me, I would be pretty depressed. Everyone wants to be rewarded for their hard work. Doesn't mean it's not your fault, but mistakes happen.

No need to be a dick. People shake and flinch a little when they are nervous. It's a bodily function, completely unavoidable.

@ #2 when they say take your mark, you aren't allowed to move at all. if the starter doesn't see you flinch in time to hold the start, you are dq'd and nothing can be done about it. flinching counts as false starting. Also, flinching doesn't always happen because you're nervous, when you're a swimmer for a long time you start to anticipate the start and sometimes you end up moving. same thing happened to me once, except mine was on the 50 free so it was nowhere near as bad as yours, but i had gone a best time. :(

I don't get it? And I guess they couldn't of really stopped her after the race started, since she was in the water and all.

Wow. You can get disqualified for FLINCHING? FYL for what happened, but also YDI for participating in something with such dumb rules.
