Today, I came out of the closet. I came out on Facebook to spare myself awkward conversations and gossip. I wrote a deeply meaningful status about my partner and my pride in who I was. The only responses were, "Lol", "Hacked", and similar remarks. FML

Today, I logged onto Facebook to see one of my "friends" had used my account to post a coming-out story. It had comments on it such as "I knew it!" "Finally." and "That explains so much." FML
Today, I told my friends I had been hiding something that I wanted to come clean on. My one friend responds by saying, "FINALLY you come out of the closet. It's about time." I'm not gay. I was just going to tell them my parents were getting a divorce. FML
Today, I came out as transgender to my extremely accepting and religious family over Facebook. My feed is currently flooded with plans for my exorcism. FML
Today, someone very close to me came out of the closet. Normally I would fully support them, had we not just gotten married. FML
Today, I came out of the closet, after years of fear and shame, thanks to my mom making me to go to a church full of fundies my whole life. In the end, I was in tears. All I got was a frown and a "So? Want a medal or something?" FML
Today, I came out to my parents as lesbian. Surprisingly, they were OK with it… just as long as I still marry a dude, give them grandbabies, and keep the whole lesbian thing a deep, dark, shameful secret that we never talk about again. FML

Today, I came out as a lesbian to my friends. They were supportive, save for my one friend, who accused me of copying her by also being a lesbian. FML
Today, I came out to my parents and siblings as gay. They were very accepting and asked me why I waited until I was 25 to do so. I didn't have the heart to tell them it was their own homophobic remarks that kept me closeted since I realized it at 14, and that a previous coming-out to a parent was dismissed as 'a phase'. FML
Today, a stranger told me how proud he was that my boyfriend and I were so open with our sexuality. For the past three years, most strangers have thought we're a pair of gay men. I'm a woman. FML

Coming out took a lot of courage. Even more so in Texas. Congratulations on living your life fully. Now you're apparently going to have to host a party and announce it there, in person!

Nothing replaces good old face-to-face conversation. Summon your courage and talk to a handful of people you care about. The rest will follow/fall into place.

The only thing is though... he wrote something long meaningful. Would someone hacking another account write a long story about being gay? Most would make a status saying "Hi I'm ____ and I'm gay[;" All I'm saying here is that the people who commented should have considered the status to be real and not some joke. OP, I give you credit for coming out. Even posting it on facebook took a lot of strength. I'm close friends with a few gay people myself, so I have a sense of what it's like to come out. Just confirm it in person, although it may be hard, and you'll be fine. :)

i can honestly say when i come out i will not be doing it w facebook....but then again it wont be anytime soon...so when i do fb will probably not be cool!! but i feel really bad.... congrats though!!!<3
