Damage control
Today, I overloaded the washing machine and it flooded the downstairs. The flooring will have to be scrapped and drywall replaced. It's 100% my fault. Did I mention this is not my house? FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, our washing machine broke and dumped around 100 gallons onto the floor. My dad had installed crappy water valves and we couldn’t turn off the water. I called my dad and he accused me of lying. His “repairs” have now caused 5 major disasters in our home due to his shoddy and cheap work. FML
Today, I was rearranging the cabinets above the washer and dryer, and the whole thing fell down on top of the washer. I had just put my clothes in the washing machine too. FML
Today, the toilet on the top floor of my house burst, soaked the bathroom, and water dripped down into the kitchen and the basement for hours when nobody was home. Eight blowers and a dehumidifier later, the house is about 90 degrees and I can't leave. FML
Today, I came home to a flooded apartment and water still pouring from the ceiling. The woman who lives above me is shocked that I would consider her responsible for the damage and doesn't think she should have to pay for it. FML
Today, I woke up to a flooded apartment. Apparently, the upstairs neighbor's bathtub had overflowed and water was pouring through my ceiling. My landlord said he couldn't do anything until the water stopped, so I spent the morning frantically trying to mop up the water while feeling completely helpless. FML
Today, I rushed home after my mom called saying our upstairs had flooded. Apparently, my little brother somehow broke the toilet while unsupervised and water overflowed everywhere. It even reached my closet, shoes, and books, and everything touching my floor in my room is now wet. FML
Today, after my washing machine broke yesterday in the middle of a cycle, I went and spent $1400 on a new one. Also today, my dryer started to smoke and almost caught my clothes on fire. There goes another $1000. FML
Today, after months of telling my landlord about the weak floorboards in my living room, I fell through them as I was trying to repair them myself. FML
Today, after house sitting for my future father-in-law and managing to keep things spotless for 3 weeks, a pipe burst. It flooded the place and shorted out a plug socket, causing a fire that ruined the front room. He gets home in 3 hours. I'm screwed. FML
Today, I was going to do some laundry, with the washer and dryer I bought off of Craigslist for 150 dollars. The washer leaks and the dryer doesn't dry. So I called the guy and left an angry message about how the washer flooded my kitchen. I'd actually just forgot to hook up the drain hose. FML

My dad worked for years in appliance repair and I went with him in the summers when I was a teen as a helper. Usually washing machines don’t “flood” the floor unless a hose comes lose (either a drain hose or a fresh water hose). That could have happened if the washer was badly unbalanced (caused by being overloaded) leading to violent shaking and the unbalance detector wasn’t working. Until you find out why the washer flooded the floor don’t run it again. A burst or disconnected hose won’t care in the future if the washer is overloaded or not. My wife used to use a laundromat to do her clothes and got into the bad habit of over-filling the machine. I do the laundry now. If it’s not a coin operated machine there is zero reason to overload the machine - It doesn’t do as good a job on the clothes, saves no money, and leads to premature wear out which costs you money. And for heavens sake, listen when the washer is going! If you hear any thumping go immediately to the washer and rebalance the load (take out the wet clothes and redistribute the load in the machine). By the way, home owners (your landlord’s) or renters insurance (your insurance) may cover the water damage. But a claim for water damage will likely eventually lead to higher rates so don’t expect your landlord to be very happy about that.

You did not mention that. You should be worried about your memory if you can't remember whether you included a detail in a two-sentence story.
