Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my parents got a call from my principal. I'd been lying that I couldn’t see the work I had to do in my online class, because I was behind and I needed to catch up. Tomorrow my parents are getting a call, telling them the dates I've been logged into the online learning. I haven’t logged in in weeks. FML
Today, after a conference with my teacher who had previously accused me of not doing my homework, she finally discovered she'd been losing it all this time. I've been getting straight Fs for a month. FML
Today, my mom found out that I’ve been faking my exam grades, turning my 30s to 80s and 40s to 90s on the paper exams. She got access to my online student portal and saw my real grades. I'm grounded for the rest of the school year. FML
Today, I faked being sick so I could weasel out of a chemistry test at school. Happy that I pulled it off, I posted my accomplishment on Facebook. I forgot that I'm friends with my parents. FML
Today, I got sent out of the class for "inappropriate" behaviour. The teacher later forgot about me and sent a notice home to my parents stating that I skipped class. FML
Today, my so-called friend snitched to the teachers that I was the admin of the school confessions page and I got scolded after school. FML
Today, I was expelled from school. By my own mother. FML
Today, I accidentally left my textbook at home. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but today was my class final. Since it was an open-book final, I'd decided not to study for it. I'm pretty sure I failed. FML
Today, I was threatened to be held back because of the lack of teacher-parent communication. My parents refuse to sign my report card because of my one mark below ninety percent. My teacher was dead serious about failing me. FML
Today, my dad took away my TV, books, and even my posters off the walls. Apparently he got a call from my headmistress, and I "should know what I did to deserve this." The thing is, I don't, I truly have no idea what I could have done to be punished like this, but I'm too scared to ask him to explain. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

All of your teachers know, and they do not mind at all being ghosted by a shit student. If your parents are anywhere from normal to tiger mom, you're in for a shitload of trouble.

As a teacher, it was easier to deal with a student who ghosted me than one who failed and came in at the last minute asking what they could do to pass (and they usually complained about it being “too much” the whole time, even if it was just to read a short story and answer a few questions). Though I was concerned about those who did ghost me. I even had one who, last I heard, her parents had COVID and she was starting to feel sick.

Maybe the Department of Education should issue a PSA to all parents: it's better if your kid just drops out rather than they be whiny little b*tches. I may sound harsh, but to an extent the one who simply drops out at least understood the basic notion of no work = no degree. Still, it's truly baffling to see how many students don't realize that the amount of work required to get a passing grade is pretty freaking minimal most of the time. And if there are any students reading this, considering how many FMLs we've had about dumbasses getting caught cheating lately: DON'T. CHEAT. We'll find out and all you'll achieve is to get caught and kicked out. You're better off just failing the class outright and doing it over next semester/year.

There is only one way through school - You put in the effort and work and do the assignments yourself and take the tests without attempting to cheat. The purpose of the assignments are to prepare you to learn the class material. The purpose of the school is to prepare you for life after school. When you repeat the grade next year remember that how you begin your classes is even more important than what kind of effort you put in at the end. When you are behind on the subject you are learning, it is far harder to catch up than it would have been to stay current with the material as you go. A few children and young adults have genuine learning disabilities in certain subjects. In cases where this has been diagnosed, at least in schools in the USA, the school is obligated to help make a plan to address those deficiencies. When you first find you are struggling with understanding the subject then go to the teacher for advice and help. You will have to put in even more time and effort, but tutors or additional assignments can usually help you to learn. There are no shortcuts unless your family is wealthy enough to let their useless and lazy children coast through life on your parents money - But then you are obligated to spend the rest of your life dependent on your parents. Finally, tell your parents. The longer you put that off the worse the ultimate consequences. Show some character and deal with the situation.

Don't lie about this. Just don't. They're going to find out eventually. THEY WILL FIND OUT. And it'll be a hundred times better telling them than letting them find out on their own.

So, maybe im not the best person to give advice since I’ve never failed a class but being open and honest with your parents is the only way. Sure they’ll probably throw a fit and be disappointed, but it’s better they hear it from you. And we don’t know what the context is. If you’re failing despite trying really hard & studying, that’s a different story from being lazy and not caring. If you simply coasted and ignored assignments, skipped class etc. then YDI

Setbacks haopen my friend. We all fail and succeed in different ways, what matters is how we respond to it

Tell your parents ASAP. Bad news is NOT like fine wine, it does NOT get better with age. The longer you wait, the worse it'll look.
