Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my soon-to-be mother-in-law decided that she is going to be in charge of planning my wedding. All decisions must be approved by her, and anything she doesn't like will be thrown out. She also wants to go on our honeymoon with us to make sure I don't "defile" her son. FML
Today, my mother-in-law became my boss. FML
Today, I was talking to my future mother-in-law about my upcoming wedding. She told me that I wasn't allowed to have the wedding at a church, nor wear a white dress, nor have roses for flowers, because that would mean I'd be "copying" her. FML
Today, my future mother-in-law finally admitted that I'm "not the girl for her son" and that she will do anything to break us up. FML
Today, marks the sixth day in a row that my mum has called me to discuss my upcoming wedding. She's obsessed and has intimidated the actual planner I hired into going along with her plans. She's slipped up twice already and accidentally referred to it as her own wedding. Just great. FML
Today, six weeks before my wedding, my mother decided to claim that she never agreed on paying for it and that she doesn't think she will. Now I have six weeks to scavenge enough cash for the wedding she planned in the first place. FML
Today, I called my mom to make sure she could attend on the wedding day my fiancé and I had discussed. She started off with criticizing the venue we considered, then went on to criticize my fiancé, and then stated she would under no circumstances help out, but demanded to pick my wedding dress. FML
Today, a week after my fiancé and I got engaged, his mother is already complaining that she isn't involved enough in the wedding arrangements. We haven't even set a date yet. FML
Today, I found out my daughter was planning a wedding and invited everyone but me. FML
Today, I'm getting married. A few months ago, I allowed my mother in-law to take care of catering. She begged to be a part of the wedding, so I gave her the caterer's number and order info. It appears that I will not be eating at my own wedding because she decided to order food I'm allergic to. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

Have a smaller wedding and tell her that you can't accept her help if it's conditional. This isn't the way to start a marriage, with her asserting her authority over your decisions.

Just say (as a team) that it's the bride's day, period. But I don't think any of it will matter because: 1. She will never change. 2. Your fiancee is a hopeless wimp. And what if it's the bride's mother? Well, then why would a man give a crap about wedding planning? That's what bride's mothers are for. In which case, not a FML.

Elope! And have a small, quiet reception on your own terms when you return. If you don't establish right now who is getting married and who should MYOB, you will have a lifetime of similar incidents ahead of you and very likely a painful divorce. If your fiance won't agree to elope, dump him now while you don't have to pay a lawyer to do so. A little pain and firmness now will avoid a lifetime of pain later.

I'm confused. gender roles and tradition dictate that the bride's family pays for the wedding and the groom does not care about the planning and arrangements further than the guest list and the cake. unless this is some progressive, new age wedding (in which case you're ******), something is wrong

welcome to the 21st century... we like to stick with the rules set up in the early 20th century which state that men and women are now equal. they even let ladies work now!
