Today, my wife asked for a divorce. Apparently, me being forced to work on her birthday and our anniversary 3 years in a row is the absolute limit she’s willing to put up with. FML

Today, I asked my wife for a divorce, after I tried everything to save our marriage, and it was a gut-wrenching decision. I tried easing her into it, but she instantly agreed. She had packing boxed ready to move out. Now I suspect she was sabotaging our marriage for months so I'd call it quits. FML

it's probably just a symptom of you making her feel second place after work. I'm sure that if you would have found some other way to show your care and appreciation it wouldn't have been such an issue. Wake up call to get your priority straight.

Like Rake, I don’t think this was the whole entire reason she wants to divorce, either. More likely it was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

You need to arrange with your work weeks or months in advance to be off for your wife's birthday. That way, you can spend the whole day at Chuck E. Cheese's with her and collect enough tickets to get great prizes.

its not your fault. you have a obligation to have a job and provide. if she wants you to be off all the time then maybe you should just quit and live off of her… but then she will say you need to get a job lol

No, even the way OP writes it the 2 specific days each year that should matter to OP about their wife didn't seem to. they didn't even mention doing something on another day or making her birthday or their anniversary up. I know plenty of people who have to work those 2 yearly days... they make plans for weekends because their spouse matters to them.

Is it such a small thing, to divorce someone over? Yeah. But like, if such small things, matters that much to someone, it should be an easy way for you to make her happy. And ya didn't do it. You probably didn't understand how important it was for her, because...such a small thing, but that means that it's now the time to apologize and say you understand and you'll do better. Not the time to say it's so small that it's not worthy of divorce, because apparently that small thing IS WORTHY of divorce. You denying it, is not taking it seriously and why should she change her mind about divorce if you make it crystal clear that shit isn't gonna change because it's "stupid to care about these things".
